TEST-ING TIME AGAINST MEGGIES

By Don Clifton

Yorkshire paceman Ajmal Shahzad made his Test debut for England in their
comfortable win over Bangladesh at Old Trafford, looking a handful for the
tourist batsmen as he collected his first Test victims. However, in August
2006, he did not cause any alarms to the Cleethorpes opening batsmen when he
opened the Yorkshire Academy attack when the Meggies visited Headingley in a
Yorkshire ECB Premier League fixture.
The Meggies openers Bill Kirby and James Osmond went on a run spree. Kirby
completed a 50 before being run out, while James Osmond plundered a century
with 12 fours and two sixes to bring his name up in lights on the Leeds score
board.
The Yorkshire Academy not only had the pace of a young Shahzad in their
attack but also the emerging Adil Rashid who had already made his county
debut.
