GREAT SCOTT - BATSMAN GEORDIE CLOSES IN ON MILESTONE

BY ANN BOULTON

Just 16 points separate the top three in South Lincolnshire & Border League Division One, with Billingborough consolidating top position, Spalding seven behind in second and Stamford in third but with a game in hand on the top two.
Geordie Scott took his total runs to 486 as Billingborough declared on 201 for five before bowling Grantham out for 102 while Charlie Kearns took six wickets for Spalding in their convincing nine wicket win over Moulton Harrox.
And Stamford kept up their challenge with a 107 run victory over Belton Park.
Lower down the table, Woodhall Spa 2nd moved away from the danger zone with a seven wicket win over Bourne 2nd, Rob Bee hitting 82 for Woodhall.
Rain stopped play in the other two games and washed out three Division Two games.
The two that were completed included Welby’s match against promotion rivals Boston 2nd which the leaders won convincingly by six wickets after David Curran had taken six for 18.
Spalding 2nd and Stamford Town 2nd were rained off in the second innings but Spalding gained sufficient points to move up to second.  However, Welby have two games in hand on the teams below them.
Claypole lost their Division Three lead to Spalding 3rd despite both matches falling victim to the rain.  Spalding picked up two more points than their opponents while Lindum Academy moved into third following their Sunday match in which Angus Pickering took five wickets to help defeat Burgh & District.
Just seven points separate the top five in this division with Timberland keeping up their challenge with a four wicket win over Grantham 2nd, a match which saw yet another young player shine, 13 year old Alex Moor taking six wickets for the victors.
