EXCITING TIE IN GRIMSBY LEAGUE'S IBWEST CUP

There was a tie in the final of the Ibwest Cup - the John Pettit Grimsby and District Cricket League's midweek knockout competition.
At Chichester Road, Cleethorpes, Immingham OB and Punjab Lions finished all square, in terms of runs and wickets lost.
We gather a copy of the rules wasn't to hand at the end of proceedings, to see whether there was any other way of dividing the teams in addition to runs scored and wickets lost.
However, a later check through the small print revealed that at the stipulated comparison point, 16 overs, Immingham had a two-run advantage.
After the game, with trophies ready for team members - some inscribed for the winners and an equal number for the runners-up - it was decided to toss a coin to decide who took which home, and Immingham called correctly.
The weather was bright and sunny, but there was a late evening finish, it being early August, of course!
