TRYING TO REFORM BROUGHTON EVENING LEAGUE

Is your club interested in joining a new evening league for the Scunthorpe area starting in 2012?
Since the demise of the Broughton and District Evening League seven years ago, there has been a gaping hole in cricket in the Scunthorpe area and the Isle of Axholme.
So now a meeting is to be held to try and re-establish a midweek competition for senior cricket clubs across North Lincolnshire.
It will be on Friday, September 30 at Alkborough Cricket Club’s West Halton Lane clubhouse (7.30pm).
Any clubs interested in joining are welcome to send representatives to this important, but preliminary, get-together.
Half-a-dozen have already shown an interest. The Broughton Evening League operated for more than 40 years.
At its peak it had three divisions and an extensive knockout competition.
However, interest gradually waned until only one division remained.
Then even that failed to gain the support of sufficient clubs to keep going.
Clubs seeking further information ahead of the meeting at the end of September can email Glen Sands - glensands13@aol.com
