LINDSEY CUP THRILLERS

By Glen Sands

DIVISION ONE KO CUP SEMI-FINALS
Barton Town 3rds will meet Marshalls Sports on Sunday, August 8th at Grimsby Town's ground, Augusta Street, in the North Lindsey League Division One Cup Final after both teams enjoyed relatively comfortable wins last Sunday. Barton bowled Messingham 3rd out for 166 at Marsh Lane, John Knapton taking 5 for 23 and Gareth Mellors 3 for 29. Then Elliot Sampson hit 59 as Barton eased to 169 for 2 in reply, Mark Austin scoring 34 and that man Knapton 31 for the Humbersiders.
Marshalls set a tough target of 191 for 9 at Heslam Park thanks chiefly to Brooks who made 69 and Ahmed ( 55 ) and it proved to be too many for Scunthorpe Town who were bowled out for 129 , Ian Snowden top scoring with 31 as Gareth Andrews took a creditable 4 for 18 for the Gainsborough outfit.

DIVISION TWO KO CUP SEMI-FINALS
Both Division Two Semi Finals were absolute cliffhangers with Broughton 3rds and Outcasts 3rds squeezing through to the Finals by the skin of their teeth. Haxey 3rds had just ten men at Broughton and set a target of 125 then were reduced to just nine in the field as Joe Wiley held his nerve to make 35 not out as Broughton replied with 126 for 9 whilst at Hirsts Priory Outcasts 3rds made 193 all out with 79 from Jamie Belton and 59 from skipper Russell Fletcher, Harry Warwick picking up 3 for 37 and Taylor 3 for 43 for Grimsby who needed just one run off the final ball to tie the match and therefore go through on less wickets only for Liam McAnaney to produce a last gasp run out to send the Isle side into the Final against Broughton in what was a thrilling finish , Danny Birchall scoring 58 and Steve Crossley 52 for Grimsby earlier in the innings.

DIVISION THREE KO CUP SEMI-FINALS
Luddington will meet Upton cum Kexby in the Third Division Final at Barton on Sunday August 22nd as both sides won through in relative comfort. Luddington were set a target of 164 for 8 by Everton 3rds with Danny Brighton hitting 33 and Peter Dobson 30 , spin bowler Anthony Fitzgerald taking 3 for 39 for Ludd who then cruised to 165 for 4 thanks to 56 not out from Richard Wroot and 47 from stalwart Geoff Smith whilst Upton produced an excellent win over Barton Acadamy Vikings whom they bowled out for 75 before Shaun Metcalf hit 43 not out to guide Upton to a terrific 7 wicket victory and a berth in the Cup Final.
