LORD'S LUNCH FOR POPULAR PLAYER

By Glen Sands, Outcasts CC scorer

Outcasts Cricket Club held their annual presentation evening at the Lincolnshire Golf Course last week next to their Hirst Priory ground and the venue proved to be a terrific choice as everyone who attended had a marvellous time.
Their three-course meal went down well after which the club Chairman announced the winners of the club awards for 2009. First team captain Graham Oxley was on hand to offer his observations from thwe season, which ultimately proved to be a satisfactory one despite a poor start.
The winner of the batting averages for the season proved to be a very close affair with Simon Lewis coming third with an average of 22.37 and Andy Lawson was then announced as runner-up with an average of 24.47. This meant that the winner for 2009 was Andy Torr who narrowly bettered Lawson with an average of 25.76.
The first team bowling award was won by Jason Whiteley with an average of 14.25 having taken 40 wickets and conceeded 570 runs, Simon Lewis coming second with 18.26 and Liam McAnaney third with his average being 18.68
Star of the evening was undoubtedly Jamie Belton who not only won the second team batting average with an incredible average of 98 but was also announced as the winner of the Lincs League Third Division batting award.
Skipper Ian Fletcher was the winner of the bowling averages for the second team with an average of 6.68. The club ensured that the majority of the second team squad had something to remember their Championship winning season when presenting 16 individual trophies.
Then the Sunday team took centre stage when Andy Lawson collected the batting award for the second successive season and captain Liam McAnaney also collected the bowling award for the second season in a row.
The club awards were then presented, with Players' Player of the Year going to Jamie Belton following his unprecedented performance throughout the summer - and the clubman award went to Andy Lawson for the work done behind the scenes as well as on the pitch.
Special mention was made with regard to David Hobson (pictured) who has been granted a special award for his superb contribution over the past 25 years that has been recognised by Lord's where he will attend a lunch in October - an award he richly deserves having been proposed by Outcasts CC for his dedication to the club.
