Marshalls Cricket Club recently took delivery of some brand new covers for the pitch at Middlefield Lane, Gainsborough.
The covers will now enable the club to continue in their quest to gain the ECB Club Mark accreditation which is necessary for them to progress to the Nottinghamshire Premier League should they gain promotion.
The covers were made by Stuart Brumby Covers and were sponsored by local firm Gelders.
The club wishes to offer its sincere thanks to both Stuart and Gelders for their massive assistance in the process.
Pictured is Steve Gelder handing over the covers to club captain Paul van den Heuvel, scorer John Connor and Stuart Spriggens.
NF adds: Thanks go to Our Man at Marshalls, Snelly, for the story and picture. Many middle-aged follows of Lincs Cricket Latest will remember Stuart Brumby playing for Broughton CC.

Well done Marshalls for all the hard work it must have taken to raise funds for these. But is this a sign of another league that demands clubs spend thousands of pounds on easily vandalised items of ground equipment that are peculiar to British cricket? The rest of the world knows that sheets are much better than ro-ro covers, but English cricket leagues insist on clubs wasting thousands on them. How many clubs have had their ro-ros vandalised or stolen in the last few years - I know of several. A decent tarp cover system will knock you back 1/10th of what you will pay for vandal magnets. And it will last almost as long and can be locked away when not in use. Breathable covers are expensive and will only last a couple of years - so forget them until the price drops by a factor or at least three (won't happen). Use a tarp system properly and it will more than serve your needs.
ReplyDeleteSpend the money you save on sorting out the surface you put the covers over.
But what do I know?

Jon, tarp covers are really only suitable for covering runups on a very short period of time. The reason breathable flat sheets are expensive is because they are just that breathable, they don't sweat the surface when on as they allow light through not like a tarp, they allow the surface to remain at the natural air temprature and prevent any disease braking out allowing them to be in place for 96 continuous hours which in this time growth will still be incouraged as they will act as a germination sheet, not like tarps do, they are easy to put on and off and don't require a host of volunters to remove like tarps do, especially when wet which is also another cost of flats sheets water removal and the time it takes to remove the surface water that maybe on there. Ro-Ros are easy to put onand have no water removal issues but come in around 4.5-5k a set. In my opinion they work well in tandem with flat sheets but not TARPS. The main point to be asked in this thred is why do they want to gain admission to the Notts Premier and not the Lincs League Prem?
