This Sunday sees Cleethorpes Cricket Club hold its annual Twenty20 cup competition. Now in it’s seventh year, the competition has become an integral part of the local cricket calendar and will feature the hosts up against North Bank rivals Hull and both Sheffield Yorkshire league representatives Collegiate and United. Last year saw the mighty West Indian Cavaliers triumph over Sheffield Collegiate in the final but the Nottingham based side that featured Usman Afzaal and Alex Tudor are unable to defend their trophy due to National Knockout Cup commitments. The day kicks off early with Cleethorpes facing Hull in the first Semi-final at 10.30. The second Semi-final sees both Sheffield sides clashing for a place in the final which will begin at approximately 16.30. James Osmond will once again lead Cleethorpes who have had an superb season and currently lie third in the Yorkshire league with just two games to go. Sheffield United have an excellent record in the competition having won the event three times in the past, the last occasion being 2008.
All three matches will be played with pink balls which proved very successful when they were trialled for the Yorkshire League Twenty20 tournament ealier in the season with fielding restictions and powerplay’s .
Cleethorpes Cricket Club are once again most grateful to Chris Broadburn of E.A Broadburn (Chemists) Ltd who continues his generous sponsorship for the seventh year running.
The Cleethorpes Chronicle will once again provide stump sponsorship for a bird's eye view.
Last year’s event drew a bumper crowd that saw some breath-taking cricket so come early as refreshments are available in the pavilion and around the ground.
