WELL WORTH 75P
The latest issue of the Scunthorpe Telegraph's Nostalgia magazine is now on sale for 75p and contains a two-page feature tracing the rise of Broughton Cricket Club from the lowest level of the Lincs League to the top flight.
Many interesting pictures appear - courtesy of Neil Simpson - including intermediates of the late 1970s/early 1980s who are now seasoned performers.
Be sure to have a laugh at the hairstyles of long ago.
September's Nostalgia is now available in local newsagents/outlets across North Lincolnshire. Or if you are from further afield, telephone the Scun Tel offices on 01724 273273 to secure your copy by post.
You might have guessed that 'yours truly' is still involved in putting this monthly publication together. If you'd like old pix from your club's archives including in a future edition, please email them to NIGEL FISHER
HINT: Double-click on the scorecard image to view in close-up. Yes, those are current umpires Mick Stothard, Dave and Bryan Simpson in the Broughton line-up from 1976, with Gig Smith, Bob Goulby, Cliff Clark and Tony Caruth the Brigg Sugar Factory bowlers. Which older players of more than 30 years ago can remember playing Lincs League cricket against Brigg Sugar, which represented the now-closed factory at Scawby Brook? We think 1978 was their final season.
