The batting of my old veteran Brigg Town team-mate John Danson - one of the nicest fellas in local cricket - seems to have gone downhill with the passing years, although he's still contributing with the ball.
However, Dano's batting form return with a vengeance yesterday as he smacked a tremendous 74 not out for Bottesford in a North Lindsey League division three encounter with Everton.
It was just two runs short of his all-time best and the first time he'd scored more than his age since he was 14 years-old.
Surely the one-time Scunthorpe Town and West Butterwick all-rounder can now put away thoughts of retirement for at least another season.
PS About five years ago, again towards the tail-end of the season, I recall Dano playing a similar knock (of about 50) to rescue Brigg 2nds from the mire at home to Tetney in the old Lincs League divison five. So bowlers had better watch out in 2014 when he's due his next blast with the bat!
