FIRST ROUND OF GAMES IN EVENING LEAGUE


The first round of matches in the Snaith & District Evening Cricket League took place on May 2nd in bright sunshine and there were wins for the 2012 Champions of both divisions as well as a winning start for Division One newcomers Outcasts, WRITES GLEN SANDS.

SNAITH LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
Champions Fishlake set Askern Welfare a target of 110 for 6 in their opening fixture thanks chiefly to Charlie Metcalfe's 27 and Steve Johnson's 26 then restricted Askern to 95 for 7 with Charlie Kaye top scoring on 33 , Pearson picking up 3 for 11 for Fishlake whilst Division Two Champions Airmyn started life back in he top flight with a nine wicket win at Hensell who were bowled out for 112 before Airmyn eased to their target. Goole Town had an eight wicket win over Hirst Courtney who made 92 for 9 before Town replied with 93 for 2 and finally Outcasts began their first ever season in Division One with a 21 runs victory at Burn where Graham Clark hit 34 and both James Glew and Jonathan Bramhill finished 26 not out as the Isle side posted a total of 149 for 6 then Burn replied with 128 for 5 , Jack Rich making a very creditable 48 not out and Mark Webster 39 for the home side , skipper Anthony Fitzgerald bowling a miserly 1 for 7 from his four overs whilst Graeme Fletcher took 2 for 16 from his four.

SNAITH LEAGUE DIVISION TWO
Eggborough won a low scoring affair against Pollington who were restricted to 82 for 5 then saw their hosts reply with 87 for 2 whilst Phil Sanders hit 54 for Sykehouse in their total of 134 for 5 against Drax who made 57 for 7 by way of a response. Howden picked up a first day victory in a thriller against Goole Firemen , posting a score of 116 for 6 then holding their nerve to squeeze home by four runs as the Firemen made 112 for 7 and finally Carlton Towers had to concede their game to Thorne Colliery as they were unable to raise a side.
