SOUTH LINCS AND BORDER LATEST

By Ann Boulton

Grantham’s victory over Sleaford 2nds opened up a gap at the top of South Lincolnshire & Border League Division One.
Grantham are now second, just two points behind Billingborough while Sleaford are 12 points adrift in third and are being threatened by Belton Park, who trail them by one point.
Martin Parmley hit 80 in Grantham’s eight wicket victory while Dave Newman took his runs total for the season to 315 with an innings of 126 as Billingborough overcame bottom team Bourne, David Gollop taking six wickets for the leaders.
Belton Park were involved in a much closer game against Boston 2nd, winning by 14 runs and Stamford got their campaign back on track with victory over Lindum Ramblers.
Ryan Bainborough had a good day behind the stumps for Market Deeping, taking four catches and a stumping in his side’s four wicket win over Spalding but six wickets for Steve Hughes couldn’t prevent Woodhall Spa going down to defeat by Moulton Harrox.
In Division Two, Skegness continue to dominate the table with Welby in second. However, Cavaliers and Billingborough 2nd, both with games in hand, are breathing down Welby’s neck after beating Thomas Cook and Heckington respectively.
Ian Glendenning’s unbeaten 85 rescued Heckington after Cavaliers’ bowlers had reduced them to 45 for five. Heckington were finally bowled out for 196 in 36 overs, Dave Robinson taking six wickets for Cavaliers who were glad of the extra overs, finally claiming victory by four wickets in the 49th over of their innings.
North Luffenham moved to the top of Division Three with a nine wicket win over Grantham 2nd and Spalding 3rd and Claypole also went ahead of former leaders Baston who were without a game. Claypole overcame Spalding in a high scoring match but remain three points behind their opponents.
