EXCITING TIE IN BORDER LEAGUE

By Ann Boulton

Spalding need one run off the last ball of the match to snatch victory from Woodhall Spa 2nd in South Lincolnshire & Border League Division One – instead that ball claimed Spalding’s 10 wicket and the game was tied on 223 each.
Earlier Rob Bee had scored the top division’s only century with an unbeaten 106 and Nic Stone had contributed 65 not out to Woodhall’s 223 for two before the Spalding fightback gave both sides a share of the points.
Belton Park put an end to Stamford’s good start to their Division One career, Nick Law and Daniel Turner putting together a mid-innings stand of over 100 that put the game out of Stamford’s reach.
The partnership began when the home side had been reduced to 45 for four, Law hitting 58 and Turner 64 as Belton reached 220 for seven at the close, Liam Dave taking five wickets for the visitors.
Andrew Sheardown then helped his side to victory, taking five for 18 as Stamford were all out for 114.
Billingborough marched on, recording a nine wicket win over Market Deeping after bowling their opponents out for 93 and Moulton Harrox continued their promising opening with a seven wicket win over Bourne 2nd, Jack Barnett taking five wickets for Harrox.
Grantham also built on their opening victory with a four wicket win over Lindum Ramblers while Sleaford 2nd won a tight game against Boston 2nd by just 18 runs.
Dave Robinson made 119 for Cavaliers in a high scoring Division Two derby against Thomas Cook who set a challenging total of 219 for seven, only to lose by five wickets.
Michael Whatton made 84 and Dave Curran took five wickets as Welby got their season on track with a 32 run win over Stamford 2nd and Matt Cox also took five for Billingborough 2nd as they overcame Sleaford Sunday by four wickets.
In the only game in Division Three, Dave Brew took for 5-13 for North Luffenham in their victory over Pinchbeck.
