BY ANN BOULTON
A rain
affected day saw Bourne increase their lead at the top of the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League
after an exciting game at Cross O’Cliff Court ended in a tie between second
placed Bracebridge Heath and Woodhall Spa.
Batting
first, Bracebridge’s Carl Stubbs made an unbeaten 77, sharing a seventh wicket
stand of 96 with Matt Carter (43) and taking his side to 247 for seven at the
close.
Sam Evison got
Woodhall off to a good start, sharing a stand of 87 with Malinga Bandara – who
had earlier taken three wickets – before falling to Paul W Cook for 50. Malinga batted on to make his first century
in the Premier League and when the Sri Lankan finally fell to Cook for 109,
Woodhall were 219 for seven.
The next
wicket fell on 225 which brought Jack Timby out to join father Paul. This duo levelled the scores but going for
the winning run off the final ball of the day Paul Timby was run out for 25,
Cook finishing with five wickets.
Colin Cheer
also took five to help bowl Skegness out for 114 but Bourne made hard work of
their victory, losing seven wickets before claiming their win.
With Lindum
without a game, Woodhall moved into third place, nine behind Bracebridge while,
despite being rained off at Louth, Market Deeping picked up enough points to
say fifth.
Deeping had
made 198 for five, with Jackson Andrews 53 not out when rain stopped play. It was a similar story in the battle at the
bottom of the table at Grimsby where Billingborough were once
again batting steadily to reach 216 for eight before the game was abandoned
after 47 overs.
Rain
interrupted the game at Spalding, where play continued to almost 9pm and
finished with the home side on the losing end of a draw against Sleaford. The visitors made 276 for nine, with Spalding
finishing on 230 for seven to stay just one point adrift of the opponents in
seventh place.
