OUTCASTS v SCUNTHORPE TOWN 2NDS - LINCOLNSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

Outcasts maintained their promotion push with a comfortable victory over a below strength Scunthorpe Town 2nds side who were missing several players through work and holidays, writes Glen Sands.
Skipper Liam McAnaney won the toss and quickly invited Scunthorpe to bat first on a green wicket that looked likely to offer his bowlers some assistance and that proved to be the case when Graeme Fletcher trapped Darren Quibell LBW without a run on the board. Neil Patrick and Jake Smith batted well in trying conditions but just when he appeared set to make a big contribution Smith got a leading edge and dollied a return catch to Fletcher having reached 26 with the total on 46 and from then on Outcasts were in command. Patrick was next to go , caught by John Stokoe off the impressive Fletcher for 19 then Declan Toyne and Luke Smith put on 22 only for that man Fletch to take a catch off the bowling of Tom Sharpe to send Smith back to the pavilion for twelve runs. It was at that point that Deol Singh took centre stage with a spell of bowling that ripped through the home sides innings. He picked up five for thirteen from nine overs , bowling four of the Scunthorpe batsmen then having the defient Toyne caught by Liam McAnaney as the Town side were reduced to 84 all out.
The Outcasts reply got off to a terrific start with Danny Hilton on his first team debut and Andrew Lawson playing some splendid shots. They had added 33 in just six overs when Lawson was bowled by Declan Toyne for 20 and when John Stokoe quickly followed there was need for Hilton and Russell Fletcher to re group with some more circumspect batting. Fletcher had made eight when he mistimed a shot and gifted Jake Smith a simple caught and bowled but Darren Clark then strode to the crease and he injected some impetous with an array of excellent shots. He and Hilton had taken their team to within four of victory when Clark was bowled by Toyne for 29 and it was left to the livewire Deol Singh to go in and win the game with an audacious switch hit boundary that brought a cheer from his team mates on the boundary and earned the Isle side another twenty points in their quest to finish in the top two. Hilton finished on a creditable 17 not out having batted through the innings whilst Declan Toyne took 3 for 27 for Scunthorpe in what was a valient effort from eight overs.
So Outcasts have now got three tough home games against Cleethorpes , Scothern and Holton le Clay after which they will have a better idea as to how their season will pan out whilst Scunthorpe will hope for players to return from holiday to get their season back on track. Outcasts 2nds were awarded the full 20 points in their game against Scunthorpe 3rds who were unable to fulfil their scheduled fixture and they too have a couple of vital matches coming up against Barton Town 2nds and Old Lincolnians as they look to climb into a promotion place with the season drawing to a close.

 

AUGUST 16 READERS LINCOLNSHIRE ECB CRICKET LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION BY ANN BOULTON

Bourne maintained their lead at the top of the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League but not before bottom side Market Rasen had made them fight all the way for their points.

Batting first, Rasen made 207 for eight, Will Bradford hitting 100.  Bourne then found themselves 78 for four before going on to win by three wickets, Albie Wright claiming five victims for Rasen.

One place off the bottom, Billingborough gained six points on 10^th placed Grimsby who fell victim to Tim McIntosh in both innings.  Sleaford’s New Zealand overseas player took six for 24 as Grimsby were bowled out for 115 then hit an unbeaten 79 to take his side to an eight wicket win that moved them up to fifth place.

At London Road, Billingborough restricted Louth to 215 for nine, of which Graham West hit 63.  The visitors were then bowled out for 154.

The only draw of the day came at Cross O’Cliff Court where Bracebridge Heath’s top eight batsmen all made double figures, Paul Cook topping the totals with 42.  This took the home side to 240 for eight and Matt Bradley then went on to take five wickets as Lindum were held to 209 for nine, Charlie Tomlinson with 61 and Will Wright 57.

Skegness recorded the highest score of the day after Kiwi Brendan Young had his best day of the season since joining the seasiders.

Young hit 126 as Skegness reached 307, Peter Houghton contributing 69 before the final wicket fell in the 50^th over.  Young then bowled eight overs, three of them maidens and took six for 14 to help bowl Spalding out for 66.

Ben O’Brien also took six wickets in a low scoring game at Market Deeping where Woodhall Spa were bowled out for 162.  Deeping then found the going tough against the Wooodhall bowlers and were all out for 63.

OUTCASTS 2NDS v MARKET RASEN 2NDS - LINCOLNSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION THREE

Outcasts 2nds promotion hopes were dented on August 2nd when they were beaten by a strong Market Rasen 2nds side at Hirst Priory, writes GLEN SANDS.
With the first team having no game Outcasts resisted the opportunity to strengthen their team opting for regulars who had served them so well throughout the season and they gave a very good account of themselves when setting a tough target of 185 for 8 in a rain interupted innings. Danny Hilton was first to go , bowled by the experienced Gary Bierlein for three then David Hobson and Matthew Teal took the total to 41 before Hobson went in the same fashion to Hilton having made 28. Teal was joined by Deol Singh and they added 50 to the score before the former was caught by Bierlein off Tom Boryszczuk for a well constructed 29. Charlie Mason and Andy Torr went cheaply and at 92 for 5 things were not looking good for the Priorymen but Mark Fletcher joined Deol at the crease and they offered good resistance when taking the total to 136 before Fletcher was out for 13 valuable runs. Deol went to a terrific half century then was caught on the boundary by Will Bradford off Luke Freeman for 70. Ian Fletcher ( 5 ) Jonathan Wroot ( 19 not out ) and youngster Arran Hawksworth ( 1 not out ) took the score to 185 for 8 by the end with Gary Bierlein taking 3 for 50 and Boryszczuk 2 for 34 for Rasen
Having taken an early tea when rain had interupted the Outcasts innings there was a quick turn around with Market Rasen setting off like a train , Matthew Travis and Boryszczuk putting on 30 in just seven overs only for the latter to sky a catch to Mark Fletcher off brother Alex for 13. Kevin Salmon joined the exceptional Travis and he too batted with purpose until he had also reached 13 and was caught and bowled by Deol Singh. Travis was within six of a rapid half century whenhe was quite spectacularly caught in the deep by Matthew Teal off Jon Wroot and for a flickering moment Outcasts might have thought they were back in the game but it was not to be as the big hitting Will Bradford , in his first Lincs League game of the season hit the ball to all parts along with George Fussey who adopted an aggressive approach from the start. Bradford eventually edged a ball into his stumps from Teal having made 35 but Fussey carried on regardless and he saw his team to victory with an outstanding knock of 59 , aided by Salmon who ended on 19 not out.
So the Isle side lost ground on table topping Cleethorpes 3rds and slipped out of the top two following Old Lincolnians win. They now have a week off to lick their wounds before welcoming Scunthorpe Town 3rds when they will hope to arrest this mini slump and get back on the promotion trail.

The remnents of hurricane Bertha swept across the county on August 10th putting paid to any hopes of cricket being played throughout the scheduled fixture list.

Appleby Frodingham moved level with Alkborough at the top of the table after sharing the points with Scunthorpe Town when the game at Heslam Park was called off while Haxey and Broughton also had to settle for one point each.

Leaders Cleethorpes were due to host bottom of the table Everton at Immingham but were thwarted by the rain and it was the same story at Luddington who had to call off against Hibaldstow. The one other game was that between Blyth CC and Outcasts which was to be played as a league and Cup double. With the league points being shared and the Cup Final being scheduled for August 17th Blyth took the unprecedented decision to concede the Cup game to Outcasts in the knowledge that had they reached the Final circumstances were such that they would have struggled enormously to field a team.

OUTCASTS v OWMBY - LINCOLNSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

Outcasts maintained their promotion hopes with a comfortable eight wicket victory over an under strength Owmby side who remain under threat of relegation from Lincs League Division One, writes GLEN SANDS.
Home skipper Liam McAnaney won the toss and invitee Owmby to bat first and was quickly awarded when Graeme Fletcher trapped Kevin Bowring LBW with the score on two. Fletcher picked up a second when he bowled Joe Atkin for eleven then McAnaney got in on the act as he took three more Owmby wickets with only 26 on the board. Dan Clark and Sam Chapman stuck around for a while , taking the total to 51 before Scott Buttrick had Chapman caught by Peter Tait for eight then Clark was out to Deol Singh for 19 and the visitors hopes of setting a sporting target were deminished even further as Darren Clark came on to mop up the tail , picking up three for eleven from just 3.4 overs. Owmby were left all out for 88 with captain Liam McAnaney finishing with 3 for 13 from 13 overs and Graeme Fletcher 2 for 17.
Openers Richard Wroot and Andrew Lawson gave Outcasts a teriffic start , putting on 60 for the first wicket in nine overs before Wroot was trapped LBW by Will Looker for 31 and Russell Fletcher was also adjudged to be infront of his stumps to a Dan Clark delivery but Lawson was in a hurry and quickly smashed the runs requires to put his team within four of victory , although it was Deol Singh who hit the winning boudary to clinch a maximum 20 points for the Isle side. Lawson ended the innings on 44 not out with sven fours and a six from 33 deliveries.
So they remain in third place, within striking distance of the promotion placings and will travel to Heslam Park on August 16th looking to maintain their outstanding season , whilst the seconD eleven play hosts to Scunthorpe 3rds at Hirst Priory in their quest to make it a double promotion for the club.

GUARD OF HONOUR FOR UMPIRE ROY AT CAISTOR

Here's a nice, sporting gesture from the Lincolnshire County Cricket League division four game, Caistor 3rds v Scothern 2nds. Both sets of players formed a guard of honour for umpire Roy Sutton, celebrating his 70th birthday. The Sunday game ended in a tie with Scothen scoring 186-9 and Caistor 186-6. AUGUST 9 LINCOLNSHIRE ECB CRICKET LEAGUE ROUND-UP BY ANN BOULTON

READERS LINCOLNSHIRE ECB PREMIER LEAGUE

August 9

The bottom of the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League provided the closest game of the day as 11^th placed Billingborough and 12^th placed Market Rasen fought out a draw at Horbling Road with the home side coming out on top by just 14 runs.

Tom Boryszcuk took five wickets for Rasen as Billingborough reached 165 for nine off their 50 overs.  Matt Rutherford then hit 63 but couldn’t quite get his side over the line.  Billingborough’s 13 points to Rasen’s nine put them 21 ahead of their opponents while Grimsby stayed 10^th, 16 up on Billingborough after going down to leaders Bourne.

Maninder Singh hit 61 as Grimsby denied their hosts maximum bowling points by posting 171 for eight at the close.  Pete Morgan made an unbeaten 91 as Bourne reached their target for the loss of four wickets to take 16 points.

This narrowed the gap slightly at the top after Bracebridge Heath took the full 20 at Market Deeping who were bowled out for 173, 100 adrift of their visitors’ total of 273 for eight.

Woodhall Spa moved into third following their victory at Jubilee Park where Jonny Cheer hit 94 and Malinga Bandara notched up his second century in two weeks, finishing 100 not out as the home side reached 265 for five before bowling Spalding out for 99.

Lindum stay fourth with a game in hand after skittling Louth for 100 then losing six wickets on their way to victory.

The highest scoring game was at Sleaford where Tim McIntosh’s unbeaten 179 helped his side to 325 for three.  But Skegness also enjoyed the good batting track, Peter Houghton making 85 and despite McIntosh taking seven wickets, the seasiders held on for a losing draw with 254 for nine.
