Grantham
pulled off the result of the day in the South Lincolnshire & Border League
Premier Division on August 10, inflicting a heavy defeat on leaders Boston and at the same time moving into
the top half of the table.
Sam Peters
decimated the top order, reducing Boston to eight for four before Tom Baxter
and Tim Bell restored some order to the innings. But Danny Ashley then chipped in with three
wickets as Boston were all out for 71, Baxter making
35.
Grantham
lost a wicket with only one run on the board and the second on 26 but an
unbeaten 45 from Martin Parmley saw the home side to a seven wicket win.
Billingborough
meanwhile were piling on the runs at home to Belton Park , Dave Newman hitting the day’s only
century with 103 and David Gollop making 54 as the total reached 233 for
seven.
But Belton
also found some batting form as Dan Turner hit 60 and Nick Law 57 to finish on
192 for nine and deny their hosts maximum points.
This result
was enough to put Billingborough 14 points clear at the top while Bourne’s
seven wicket win over Stamford Town saw them take over in third place
from their opponents.
In the
bottom of the table battle, Jack Barnett took the Premier Division’s only five
wicket haul as Moulton Harrox overcame Welby by three wickets.
In Division
One, Long Sutton marched on with a victory over Moulton Harrox Sunday but below
them Baston and Friskney now share second place with Stamford Town 2nd only three points
behind them with a game in hand.
Jon Howard
hit 68 in Baston’s win over Boston 2nd while Friskney were involved
in one of the day’s closest game, defeating Market Deeping 2nd by
just nine runs, Rob Grant making 50 and Mick Troops taking five wickets for the
victors.
Stamford 2nd’s
win over Heckington was also by nine runs, Jon Morley making 56 in Stamford’s
114 all out while for Heckington Chris Morley took five wickets then went on to
hit 53 runs. But six wickets for Chris
Birch helped bowl the home side out for 105.
Cavaliers
stayed within striking distance of Division Two leaders Long Sutton 2nd
with a 20 point win over Claypole, Lewis Taylor taking five wickets and Jamie
Hayes four, while Andy Wright hit 80 runs for Long Sutton in their victory over
Welby 2nd.
Sutton stay
12 ahead of Cavaliers with Lindum 3rd in third place after their win
over Freiston.
Burgh &
District continued their good run with victory over Welby 2nd,
Ashley Redgard hitting 61 and Phil Sharp claiming a hat trick in his five for
20 for Burgh. Eric Askin also claimed
five wickets in Timberland’s win over Pinchbeck.
