NORTH LINDSEY LEAGUE ROUND-UP BY GLEN SANDS

The first silverware of the Amazing Smile North Lindsey Cricket League season went to Caistor Cougars yesterday, following their narrow victory over Grimsby Town in the Division One cup final.
Paul Dimbleby made a match-winning 60 not out in the Cougars' 160 before Grimsby were restricted to 144 for 9 in reply.

DIVISION ONE
Appleby-Frodingham closed the gap at the top, moving to within two points of long time leaders Grimsby Town after gaining a six-wicket win at Hibaldstow. The Stelmen bowled Hibaldstow out for 98, thanks in the main to Tom Brookes who took an impressive 4 for 8 before  Frod eased to 99 for 4.
DIVISION TWO
Alkborough played Haxey in a game that doubled up as a league and Cup fixture and they won through to a second final when beating their Isle rivals by 71 runs. Man of the season VK Raj top scored with 80 and Craig Ross made 34 as Alkborough posted a total of 197 for 7, Mark Atkins taking 4 for 35 for Haxey who were then bowled out for 126, Ethan Tonks making 39 as that man Raj showed his all-round ability when taking 5 for 16.
They will now meet Outcasts in the Final at Luddington on August 25th. Mentioning Luddington they moved to within a point of Alkborough and Outcasts at the top of the table when they saw off a spirited Barton Academy Viklings side, Darren Clark scoring 42 and brother Graham 33 as Ludd made 168 all out, George Short taking 4 for 25 and Jack Waller 4 for 39. Then the Vikings reached 115 in reply, Liam Parker hitting 32 as the Clark brothers picked up three wickets each.
DIVISION THREE
Cleethorpes clinched a place in the divisional cup final as they won a league and cup double header at plucky Blyth where the Meggies made 217 for 8, thanks chiefly to Rob Cowlam's 84 and Ian Mansfield who hit 54, Glyn Coxhill picking up 3 for 66 for Blyth. He went on to contribute 37 with the bat along with 54 not out from Liam Penrose and 33 from Pete Mitchell as the home side gave their opponents quite a match but it will be Cleethorpes who will take on South Kelsey in the final at Messingham on September 1. Kelsey had a comfortable win against Misterton who were bowled out for 64, Harris Charalambous taking 4 for 14 and Adam King 4 for 22. Then Connor Hawkins fired 32 as Kelsey reached their target for the loss of three wickets. The scheduled match between Everton and Upton cum Kexby was postponed as Upton were unable to field a team.

SUNDAY AUGUST 25 PREVIEW
There are two matches in Division One as Appleby Frodingham take on Caistor Cougars looking to climb to the top of the table while Scunthorpe Town play host to Hibaldstow who are in need of points to move away from the foot of the league.
Both games in Division Three have a baring on the destination of the title with Cleethorpes heading to Everton in the knowledge that a win will see them clinch top spot whilst Blyth CC take on South Kelsey hoping to capitalise on any slip from the top two.
Following their success in the Divisional Cup Semi-final against Haxey, Alkborough have set the league something of a headache, having qualified for two cup finals scheduled for the same date. So some hurried re-scheduling means that the Amazing Smile KO Cup Final against Grimsby Town will now be played on September 8, leaving Alkborough free to take on Outcasts on August 25 at Luddington in the Divisional Final.
