Another Bank Holiday brings another busy weekend of games for Cleethorpes Cricket Club. After their opening Yorkshire league win over Appleby Frodingham, Skipper James Osmond’s sides face home matches against Castleford and Yorkshire Academy. They make one change with first choice keeper James Windeatt once again available. With Sri Lankan professional Omesh Wijisiriwardana still awaiting a visa the Cleethorpes bowling attack that did so well in the wins over Appleby Frodingham and Belvoir get another opportunity. Jack Harrison has certainly hit the ground running with seven wickets over the two games. His five wicket haul at Belvoir was his first in senior cricket while veteran Andy Ellis caused all kinds of problems to the Steelmen on Saturday with another five wickets.
Paul Sunley’s 2nd X1 face away trips to Caistor and Alford over the Bank holiday. After last weekend’s encouraging win at Bracebridge Heath that saw Eddie Carlton plunder 85 in just 67 balls and Indy Hayre pick up four wickets, Cleethorpes can go into these games in great confidence.
Jeff Todd led Cleethorpes 3rd X1 to an opening day win at Keelby last Saturday and again leads the side for the return fixture with Keelby before travelling to Market Rasen on Monday. Spinner Lewis Markham picked up were he had left off last season with a five wicket haul while Ben Marris backed up a good display with the keeper’s gloves to hit a valuable 39 with the bat.
Cleethorpes 4th X1 face South Kelsey 2nds away on Saturday. A promising 7-wicket win over Cherry Willingham 2nds got the side off a good start in Division three with Bob Leafe hitting an unbeaten half century after Andy Severn’s fine display with the ball.
Nathan Judah leads the North Lindsey X1 as they travel to Barton in their first match of their defence of the North Lindsey crown.
