  1. Surely it's about time we had a choice of more than just the one ball, i know other saturday leagues get a choice of 3 then the club purchases the balls themselves instead of just having one ball which is chosen through a 3rd Party.

Fully agree with the above comment. I know a couple of years ago the Lincs League sampled a few balls from a company called Oxbridge (based in cornwall)

Having recently bought 13 balls from them i can honestly say the balls are of excellent quality and reasonable price. I believe the current Lincs ball is £15, im sure if the league were able to strike a deal with the company, then an agreement on price could be made.

For those interested, here is the link.

Ive been in regular contact with the Rep at Oxbridge so would be able to persue this if the league was interested.

  3. charlie french balls work out at £11.50 each and meet the required standards and are excellent,
Readers ball scome out at £12.00 and meet stitching requirements etc.
Also Mapperley sports do a Clun Prem Ball at £9.50 all three are accepted in bassetlaw and no other balls can ne used, but they club have a choice of three for them to purchase themseves without paying over inflated prices which i'm sure is making someone better off.

  4. The Lincolnshire League Executive Committee, comprising the member clubs, decides which type of ball to use. The longer the league contract, the better the deal. Buying in bulk brings the usual savings in price. Various balls were "road tested" in recent years from different suppliers, but this practice did not prove popular. As with any other topic in the Lincs League, clubs are free to put forward issues for discussion.

In years gone by, it seems that the reader ball is getting weaker. I played in a game this year on a soft ground and after 15 overs, the ball was battered! The ball seems to lack durability and cant seem to stand 45/50 overs of cricket per innings. A friend of mine plays down south and they use 1 ball per game! imagine a readers ball doing 90/100 overs a day..........

Nigel you will be well up on what balls were used in recent times. Do you recall the oxbridge ball being used? from what i gather it was rated highly but due to pricing, the league stuck with readers as it was slightly cheaper and would keep the contract rolling on year by year.

I would suggest if something was to be put to the league, would have to come from several clubs rather than one individual....
