BOURNE LIFT TITLE

By Ann Boulton

The weather and a 20-point win over Hartsholme combined to allow Bourne to claim the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League championship with a week still to go.
While rain affected the north of the county, forcing Louth to call of their match against challengers Sleaford, Abbey Lawn hosted a full game. And in addition to sealing the championship, Bourne bowler Mark Dixon also recorded a first for his club, taking nine wickets in the match.
Earlier Will Clough had blasted an unbeaten 110 to get Bourne out of trouble and take the score to 219 for eight at the close. Dixon then claimed nine Hartsholme wickets for 31 runs as the visitors were all out for 62.
Two other games were completed, Skegness beating Woodhall Spa by six wickets while Market Deeping claimed a five wicket win over Grimsby to move into the top half of the table above Nettleham, whose game against Bracebridge Heath fell foul of the weather as did Lindum v Boston.
Woodhall made 139 for nine at Jubilee Park before Saeed Bariwala hit an unbeaten 71 to take the seasiders to victory. And at Outgang Road, Harry Warwick made 64 and Ali Sharp took five wickets as Grimsby were all out for 148. Gary Yeeles then hit 54 of Deeping’s 151 for five.
Sleaford need 10 points from their final game against Bourne to claim the runners-up slot.
