Many congratulations to Keith Warn, from Howsham, who has been voted umpire of the year in the Lincolnshire County Cricket League. He will receive his trophy at the league dinner next March.
This was the first season in which umpires in all five divisions of the competition were marked - previously it was only those in the top flight who were graded by the teams at the end of each match.
Keith is a member of the Scunthorpe and District Umpires' Association and a former Football League goalkeeper with Watford.

BACK ON LINE
We've had some internet connection problems over the past couple of days, but we are now back online.
Good to see former Brigg Town and Scunthorpe Town all-rounder Paul Musselwhite installed as deputy in the caretaker management team at Lincoln City FC, following the departure of manager Chris Sutton. Paul is the keeper coach at Sincil Bank but still lives in the Brigg area.

AND FINALLY...
On behalf of the junior section of Broughton Cricket Club I would like to thank parents for transporting their children to matches. This year I marked a few games for the Under 11s, who had new players who had not even hit a cricket ball making up the teams. It was lovely to see the inspiration that the children had. The improvement they made during the season was great. Talk about keen, they are children who want to play cricket. I am even getting asked now when are we training. They range from 9 upwards. I would like to ask the senior members if you get a chance please go and watch these youngsters and give them some of your time and support. Also a big thank-you to Dave for running this team.
Under 13s were very eager this season and we had plenty of players who were very keen and it was hard to team select. I would like to thank all the players who were rang late when anyone was sick. We played some really good cricket and these lads are the future senior cricket team. We won some games and we had some excellent bowling and batting. It was nice to see the encouragement that players gave each other. I would like to thank all the players who went and played most weeks for the Under 15s.
The Under 15s had a mixed season and was unable to get a full team of their own age group. They were helped out by the under 13s. It was nice to see that some of these players went on to play senior cricket this season. I would like to say a big thank-you to Robbie Ward who came and helped umpire for the under 11s and 13s when he was available and I would like to wish him all the best now that he will be moving on from junior cricket to senior cricket. He has been a very good role model for the younger players. Also I would like to thank everyone for all the help they have given the junior section - be it training, scoring or helping out with transportation. Most of all I would like to thank all players for turning up, win or lose.

Duck award "winner" Robbie Glentworth (left) with Nick Dobbs, keeper and top batsman for the third team on Sundays in the North Lindsey League.
"Yours Truly" congratulating Matty Hammond on another impressive season with the bat for the first team. With thanks to Paul Clark for grabbing the camera and doing the honours. Yes, we'd all had a pint or three by this stage (and the rest!)

VERY SHORT CLOSE SEASON
Lincolnshire club cricketers are now winding down after a long five-month season, but for those involved in league administration the close season has been short-lived.
Next Monday - nine days after the end of the 2010 campaign - Lincolnshire League officers meet up for our pre-AGM meeting, to formulate things for 2011.
It will be a long night!

JACK THE TAXI - BLAST FROM THE PAST
It was an honour to attend Broughton Cricket Club's presentations last night and to hand over a fine selection of trophies to winners of all ages. The event proved very enjoyable and highly successful, with a magnificent buffet - in keeping with their excellent match-day teas always provided by this homely club at the Phil Grundy Centre.
Chairman Phil Glentworth has kindly let us have a printed copy of his extensive review of the season, delivered last night, plus a full list of award winners.
We will be running the report as soon as time permits, together with a good spread of pictures.
They kindly sent Craig Hall in his car to take me over to Broughton Workingmen's Club for the event, and Tom Brock and his other half, Vicky Little, saw we got back to Brigg safely in a hired mini-bus driven by one of my old Brigg Town clubmates, Jack The Taxi.
It was good to chat to former long-serving Lincolnshire wicketkeeper Nigel Dobbs about matches long ago on the Minor Counties circuit, in which he played and on which I reported at length.
Thanks also go to seam bowler Andrew Hillyard, second team skipper Dave Jones and chairman Phil for the drinks.
The only slight disappointment was failing to win a prize in the raffle, for which a super and extensive array of prizes was donated. Clearly I should have stumped up for more than a fiver's worth of tickets.
Anyway, as we said, there's a full report, pix and list of prize-winners coming in due course...

MESSINGHAM DECLINE PROMOTION
By Ann Boulton
The Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League will go into 2011 with the same line up as this season after Messingham declined the opportunity to return to the league only one year after they were demoted.
Despite finishing almost 60 points up on Caistor at the top of the Lincolnshire County Cricket League Premier Division, Messingham decided to spend another year in the feeder league where they have introduced more talented juniors to the side.
With South Lincolnshire & Border League champions Billingborough lacking the junior set-up necessary to qualify for promotion, bottom side Hartsholme’s place in the top flight is safe, giving the Lincoln side the chance to build on what was a promising start to the Premier League career.
Hartsholme captain Nathan Poundall carried off a trophy in his first season in charge when he tied with Skegness player Roald Badenhorst for the fielding prize, both players taking 13 catches. And fellow newcomers Boston also celebrated as Janet Morris came out top of the scorers’ list.
Following the retirement of six-times winner Don Oslear, umpire David Ginn will receive the Sibber Addison Memorial Trophy at the league dinner in February.
Sleaford pipped Grimsby to pick up the Fair Play Trophy. And Nettleham’s ground staff are the first winners of the trophy awarded in memory of late chairman Terry Bates for the pitch that scores the highest average marks over the season.
Clubs expressed their concern about the lack of uniformity in the rules of the different leagues, which can particularly affect promoted teams. They were told that the Lincolnshire Cricket Board was looking to meet with league chairmen to discuss this and other related matters.
County Pitch Adviser Martin Deans handed out reports on pitch markings and told clubs that the results of tests on soil samples he had taken from all pitches in the league were being distributed. He said that Lincolnshire is in the top 10 Premier Leagues in the country for its pitch marks.
Various rule changes were put forward and these will be voted on at the league’s AGM on October 13.

LINCS POLICE REACH NATIONAL FINAL
Chief Supt Lee Freeman - better known in our cricketing community as a stalwart member of Louth 2nds in Lincs League div one - has sent Lincs Cricket Latest the the official match report and scorecard following Lincolnshire Police reaching their first-ever national cricket final. The team (pictured here) played Essex at Sleaford.
Other familiar names include: Charlesworth (Heckington), Barlow (Lindum), Tuach (Lindum), Duke (Reepham) and Bagnall (Keelby).
Essex Won by five wickets, havng won toss and elected to field first.
GIFFARD PLATE FINAL
LINCOLNSHIRE v ESSEX
By Ady Garnham
A warm, overcast afternoon greeted the players of Lincolnshire and Essex at Sleaford Cricket Club in the heart of Lincolnshire.
Essex skipper Ady Garnham won the toss and elected to bowl on a green and slightly damp wicket, a decision which soon reaped rewards with opening bowler Luke Gamman taking two early wickets to reduce the hosts to 402.
A brilliant one handed pick up and throw by Roper at gully saw number 3 Duke run out without scoring. Tuach and Birkin repaired some of the early damage by putting on 40 for the 4 th wicket before the former was run out by Sargeant in the deep. G. Barlow came to the crease and from ball one began to play some big shots, scattering the field far and wide. He made a brutal 49 ball 50 before being amazingly caught one handed on the long on boundary by Roper and once he was dismissed M. Waddington came in to strike some equally lusty blows in making 29 from only 17 balls, an innings which included three huge sixes.
Once Waddington was dismissed in the 42nd over with the score on 184-7, the innings fell away slightly and the home side finished on a competitive 203-9.
D.Jackson picked up 3-35 for Essex but it was the visitors catching and ground fielding which caught the eyes of onlookers.
The Essex run chase began with openers Gamman and Jackson pushing quick singles and putting away any bad balls to take their side to 39 in the 8 th over. Gamman was the first man out trapped LBW by Charlesworth. This brought debutant P.Challis to the crease and he and Jackson began to take the game away from the hosts by striking the ball hard through the infield. The pair put on a superb 104 for the 2 nd wicket before Challis fell for 49 from 53 balls. Jackson didn’t seem flustered by his partner's demise and past 50 in the 25th over. With Essex on 165-2 after 31 overs, Lincolnshire looked dead and buried but kept their heads up and fought hard for the 3rd wicket. K.Hodge was the man who finally got rid of Jackson who had made a superb, chance less 72. Four over’s later Sargeant was dismissed and he was quickly followed by the wicket of Green as the home side suddenly felt that they could grab victory from the jaws of defeat. Garnham and Cooper had other ideas however and took Essex past the victory target in the 43 rd over to give their side a 5 wicket win and add the Plate to last seasons PSUK National victory.
Dave Jackson was presented with the man of the match award by the Lincolnshire Assistant Chief Constable.
Thanks must go to Sleaford C.C. who proved to be magnificent hosts for the final.

PLEASED HE'S OK
We all saw the funny side, but it could have been nasty...
During Saturday's Lincs League premier division match at Brumby Hall between Appleby-Frodingham 2nds and champions Messingham, the latter's keeper, Cameron Fletcher, was the victim of a freak incident. He was standing up to the stumps to a seamer when the ball eluded the outside edge of the bat and somehow ended up inside the visor of his helmet.
Talk about sniffing leather!
Cameron, who has established a new dismissals record for the top-flight, was unhurt and we all had a chuckle about it - including him.
Just as well young keepers are forced to don the lid by our lords and masters at the ECB. Take your hat off to them...or, in Cameron's case, your helmet!

GROUND POSER
With Brigg Town Cricket Club in the news locally at the moment (see earlier posts) we thought we'd test out the knowledge of local sports followers.
Can you name the FOUR home grounds used by Brigg Town CC for league games between 1974 and the present day?
Two of them should prove easy enough and the third won't be much of a problem if you are over 35. But perhaps the final ground might have you stumped.
Answer to follow tomorrow.

FINAL NORTH LINDSEY TABLES
By Glen Sands
The two scheduled games in the North Lindsey Sunday Cricket League were both rained off, which means Cleethorpes 5ths retained their first division title on their own and didn't have to share it with Caistor Cougars or Messingham 3rds who, had they played and gained a result either way, would have tied for the trophy.
The other match to be washed out was between division two champions Grimsby Town 3rds and Alkborough 3rds.

LINCS ECB RUNNERS-UP SPOT SETTLED
By Ann Boulton
The Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League season of surprise results continued right to the final weekend when Sleaford beat champions Bourne to claim the runners-up spot and Lindum came seemingly out of nowhere to claim third place after beating Bracebridge Heath.
At the start of the day Bracebridge and Skegness were both contenders for second place but the seasiders went down to Market Deeping and had to be content with fourth with Bracebridge finishing fifth with Deeping in sixth.
At the foot of the table, Boston moved out of the bottom two, beating Woodhall Spa to push them down into 11th, while Hartsholme went down to Nettleham for whom Warren Nel hit an unbeaten century to finish with 928 runs, the top batting figures for the season.
An eventful game at Augusta Street saw Gary Tillison take seven Louth wickets, including four in four balls as his side recorded their eighth draw of the season, Louth hanging on to finish 153 for eight after Grimsby had reached 215 for eight. Gihan Perera hit 73 before badly injuring his ankle in his last match before returning to Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
Sleaford skipper Oliver Burford snatched the wicketkeeping title from Jason Scheepers, snaffling four catches in his side’s victory over Bourne to take his total to 29, one ahead of his Bracebridge rival while Bourne’s Fahad Masood topped the bowling with 62 wickets despite missing his last two matches through injury.
RESULTS
Market Deeping 203 (Peacock 74, Kirkham 5-52), Skegness 167 (Epton 57); Grimsby 215-8 (Perera 73 ret hurt), Louth 153-8 (Osmond 56, Tillison 7-40 inc four in four balls);
Bourne 140, Sleaford 144-1 (Shorthouse 67no); Hartsholme 208-9 (Shooter 60, Bell 51), Nettleham 209-5 (Nel 100no); Bracebridge Heath 192 (Khoza 77, Morley-Barnes 5-42), Lindum 193-6 (Hornsby 93no); Boston 194-8 (Timby 54, Sergeant 55), Woodhall Spa 141 (Wilson 6-41).

GO ASHES "APP"
Tourism Australia has launched a fun new Flick Cricket game on the Go Ashes app ahead of the Vodafone Ashes Series 2010-11 that will start on 25 November in Brisbane.
The game replaces the competition element that had been hosted on the app to give one lucky winner the chance to go to the Ashes Test in Brisbane.
A must for any visitor to Australia, the Go Ashes app contains in-depth destination information on the five host cities and beyond, including image galleries, bespoke videos featuring Aussie cricketing legends Michael Bevan, Justin Langer, Chris Hartley, Darren Lehmann and Damien Fleming, a guide to eating and drinking in each city and must-see must-do events and activities recommendations.
Cricket fans can get the lowdown on the Series plus team news, results updates and live scoring as it happens. The app also contains a ‘Twickets’ section for cricketing Tweeters, and now the app’s new Flick Cricket game is a fun way to pass the time!
Tourism Australia General Manager (UK and Europe), Rodney Harrex says: “The Go Ashes app has been an exciting development for Tourism Australia and, along with creating a buzz for the forthcoming Ashes Series, it contains useful information for any holidaymaker travelling to Australia. We look forward to welcoming English fans to Australia for the Ashes Series later this year. Attending a sporting event of this calibre as part of an Aussie holiday is an incredible thing to do. We would encourage the travelling fans to have a go at some iconic Aussie experiences while they’re down there such as learning to surf, wine tasting and beach cricket. Getting to the outback is a must-do too.”
The app is free of charge.

HARRY GOES DOWN-UNDER
By Paul Hewstone, Cleethorpes Cricket Club
Harry Clewett, our 16-year-old off-spinner, leaves on Tuesday for New Zealand. He is spending our winter playing cricket in Christchurch, care of Peter Fulton.
Harry has a trial match for a minor counties side on Saturday, he will play club cricket in New Zealand and will train as part of the Christchurch first team squad.
Please note the overseas players for Christchurch this season are Sean Tait and Ryan Ten Doscate.
It is thought this will be the start of an exchange programme between Cleethorpes and Christchurch, as we hope Pete will be back to captain the first team next year, but he will also bring an up and coming Kiwi with him to play in our 2nd team in the Lincs League.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE
Brigg Town Cricket Club will continue to run teams in 2011. Last night's annual meeting at The Hawthorns, home of Brigg Town FC, only attracted half-a-dozen members - but they transacted all the business necessary to ensure cricket will be played at the Recreation Ground next summer.
I went along last night slightly fearful that so few would turn up the club's future might be under threat - after Brigg's resignation from the Lincolnshire League, the "dropping" of various junior sides in recent years and the impending withdrawal from the 2011 North Lindsey Sunday League, However, the long-serving Gary Smith, taking the chair, soon made it clear there was no question of that. The others who attended this important AGM were new secretary Joe Hebblewhite, ex-first team skipper and secretary Lee Fielden (who hasn't played much this season), treasurer Jack Richards, Richard Lancaster and Phil Dewfall.
Brigg Town 2nd X1 will continue in the East Yorkshire Alliance division three, with home games at Brigg Rec, but will now be the club's first and only senior side. It's hoped a good number of this summer's first teamers will stop with the club to play in the Hull-based competition during 2011.
Phil Dewfall will skipper the side, with Richard Lancaster his vice-captain.
It is also hoped to form, and run, an under-11 side - operating closely with Sir John Nelthorpe School.

YOU ARE SO GENEROUS
We've had more indications of donations to Diabetes UK from folk who couldn't make it to Sunday's charity match at Keelby, including a fiver pledged by Andy "Chippy" Clay - he of "Moon Ball" slow-left-arm fame. Chippy will be chipping in via his Alkborough 2nds team-mate Steve Kirman, who is handing over the cash raised to the charity. If you wish to donate, please contact Steve.
Chippy's impending generosity takes us beyond the £250 mark.

CHARITY MATCH SUCCESS
The annual northern Lincolnshire charity cricket match on Sunday raised £246 for Diabetes UK. The money will be forwarded to the charity by Alkborough batsman Steve Kirman - one of those who played in the game so kindly hosted at short notice by Keelby CC on their fine new ground. Many thanks go to their officials and groundstaff and to all players and spectators for supporting the game. Rick Green did very good work as treasurer on the day, collecting raffle money and match fees.
SCORES
Ian Fletcher's Veterans' X1 165 for five in 35 overs (Steve Kirman 52 retired, Kev Buttrick 26 not out, Simon Lewis 23, Steve Dixon 23, Ricky Thorpe 2-27); Nigel Fisher's Lincs Cricket Latest X1 166 for five (Ricky Thorpe 47 not out, Bob Leafe 36, Andy Sharp 33, Steve Skipworth 18, Jimmy Snee 17, Ian Fletcher 2-25).
After an enjoyable game played in fine weather and a good tea, Ian Fletcher thanked both teams and umpires Steve Bailey and Brian Cross. He pointed out the win for Fisher's team had levelled the series at three wins apiece. However, he couldn't resist a dig at "yours truly" for playing in jeans (the elastic having expired on the flannels after six years' retirement from playing!). We have promised all concerned to purchase a new set for the 2011 game. Next year we are hoping to return to the traditional August Bank Holiday Monday date. I'm proposing Parkinson's Disease research will be the charity next year.
Before the start...
Umpires Brian Cross (left) and Steve Bailey (right) with Ralph Gray, George Coulson and Steve Dixon.
Jimmy Snee and Dave Willey return to the fine clubhouse at Keelby (below) after a walk round the boundary.

NOSTALGIA ON MENU
From Dave Simpson, Broughton
Sam and I were umpiring at Messingham yesterday when during discussions with Rob Elsome he showed us an interesting document from 1935.
It relates to a signed programme from the First Scunthorpe and District Cricket League annual dinner at the Crosby Hotel, in October of that year.
Unfortunately, he didn't have any stories to relate but I have scanned a copy
for your information. Sam has got the original programme.

BOURNE LIFT TITLE
By Ann Boulton
The weather and a 20-point win over Hartsholme combined to allow Bourne to claim the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League championship with a week still to go.
While rain affected the north of the county, forcing Louth to call of their match against challengers Sleaford, Abbey Lawn hosted a full game. And in addition to sealing the championship, Bourne bowler Mark Dixon also recorded a first for his club, taking nine wickets in the match.
Earlier Will Clough had blasted an unbeaten 110 to get Bourne out of trouble and take the score to 219 for eight at the close. Dixon then claimed nine Hartsholme wickets for 31 runs as the visitors were all out for 62.
Two other games were completed, Skegness beating Woodhall Spa by six wickets while Market Deeping claimed a five wicket win over Grimsby to move into the top half of the table above Nettleham, whose game against Bracebridge Heath fell foul of the weather as did Lindum v Boston.
Woodhall made 139 for nine at Jubilee Park before Saeed Bariwala hit an unbeaten 71 to take the seasiders to victory. And at Outgang Road, Harry Warwick made 64 and Ali Sharp took five wickets as Grimsby were all out for 148. Gary Yeeles then hit 54 of Deeping’s 151 for five.
Sleaford need 10 points from their final game against Bourne to claim the runners-up slot.
RESULTS
Bourne 219-8 (Clough 110no), Hartsholme 62 (Dixon 9-31); Grimsby 148 (Warwick 64, Sharp 5-46), Market Deeping 151-5 (Yeeles 54); Woodhall Spa 139-9, Skegness 143-4 (Bariwala 71no); Lindum v Boston – abandoned, no play; Louth v Sleaford – abandoned, no play; Nettleham v Bracebridge Heath – abandoned, no play.

CRACKING FINALE IN PROSPECT
By Glen Sands
Caistor Cougars beat Marshalls Sports by six wickets to put themselves within three points of current leaders Cleethorpes 5ths in North Lindsey League division one, Mark Whitelam hitting 60 for the Gainsborough side who made 155 all-out before Ryan McKitton guided the Cougars home with 59.
But Messingham 3rds are also just three points behind the leaders as well after they eased to a 140-run victory over Scunthorpe 4ths , Cameron Fletcher scoring a superb 127 as they posted a total of 246 for 4 , Lindley adding 58 only for Scunthorpe to slump to 106 all out in reply. Appleby Frodingham 3rds won a nail biter against Barton Town 3rds who were dismissed for 126, Mark Foster making 30 for the Humbersiders whilst Jack Forrester and Ben Bramley both picked up three wickets then Jack Dixon guided Frod home with a nervless 63 not out as they squeezed home by just one wicket. Sunday's game between Caistor and Messingham will see the winners tie for the title with Cleethorpes 5ths so it promises to be a cracking finale to the season.

RASEN CROWNED LINCOLN SUNDAY CHAMPS
By Andy Richley, Market Rasen CC
There were joyous scenes at Rase Park on Sunday as Market Rasen Town Cricket Club’s Sunday XI sealed their McKinnells Lincoln Sunday League Premier Division title with a comfortable 8 wicket win over Lindum. The victory put the seal on an excellent campaign for the side and it was fitting that the championship was won in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.
Ian Williams, the Sunday XI’s manager endorsed the victory: ‘This has proved how good Rasen’s Sunday side has performed all year. The league doesn’t lie and the best side has won. It’s incredibly pleasing that the majority of the side have come through Rasen’s lauded youth system’.
The club’s first league title in a decade saw the celebrations go on into the night and was met with delight by the side’s skipper, Matt Rutherford who stated: "The best team and the best team spirit that I’ve enjoyed in cricket. It’s been a pleasure to captain the side this year and hopefully we can challenge again in 2011."
A young Lindum side found Rasen’s league-leading bowling attack too hot to handle as Jon Darke (4 for 20) and Matt Hamilton opened up with the ball and immediately troubled the visitors. Whilst a few batsmen reached double-figures, none of Lindum’s players were able to go on. With the visitors already in the mire after Darke’s fine opening spell, the introduction of spin twins Gary Bierlein ( 2 for 21) and Matt Rutherford (3 for 22) brought a swift end to a limp Lindum batting performance. The minster-men had no answer, in particular, to Bierlein whose first seven overs went for only eight runs, as the batsmen were bamboozled, succumbing to 98 all out.
Rasen’s reply saw Luke Robinson and Graeme Bell (36) get the home side off to a solid start, with Lindum failing to trouble the pair unduly. Both players unfurled a wide range of shots around the wicket, but it was the teenager, Robinson, who really caught the eye, taking the game away from the visitors with an unbeaten 52, that included a straight six to win the match and take the title.

I am trying to find out the scores for two games played in the Scuthorpe area in 1965/1966 seasons.
Game 1, played 30/05/1965: South Kelsey v Cromwell
Game 2, played 25/06/1966: Brigg Sugar v Cromwell
If you could give me scores and any batting/bowling figures I would be very grateful.
NF ADDS: Please email any information, or suggestions about where it might be found, to davidwoodcd@tiscali.co.uk

BRIGG BOW OUT LINCS LEAGUE
Having played almost 780 games for Brigg Town (1974-2004) it's very sad they've now dropped out of the Lincolnshire County Cricket League, the final game being at home to Alford 2nds last Saturday in division four.
The name of Brigg Town is also destined to be missing from the North Lindsey League next season. Several Brigg junior sides have also fallen by the wayside in the past year or two.
However, it is intended to keep a team going (the current 2nd X1) in East Yorkshire Alliance division three.
The club dates back to early Victorian times and was quite a force during the late 19th century and early 20th century. The Second World War took its toll and it was not until 1974 that Brigg returned to league action, in the Grimsby Saturday League, initially with only one team. The following year a second team was added.
The 1976 campaign saw Brigg Town's debut in the Lincolnshire League. They've left and rejoined three times since then, but it has not proved to be a case of third time lucky.
There have been issues with ground maintenance at Brigg Rec and concerns about playing standards.
Brigg Town CC will be holding its AGM next Thursday - 16th Sept at Brigg Town FC, 7.30pm. "Attend to have your say," longest-serving player Gary Smith is telling all members.
Surely there's never been such an important one to attend!
Memories are made of this ... newspaper cuttings of previous Brigg Town triumphs inside the equipment store.
The famous poplar trees have overseen many matches in the Lincs League.
The end is near...Heading off back to the pavilion.
A disappointing score fails to depress Brigg bowler Richard Lancaster.
Keeper/batsman Paul Harrison manages a smile as opening batsman Gary Smith attends to the scorebook.

WELCOME ABOARD, ROB
Rob Bain has confirmed his availability to play in Sunday's veterans' charity friendly at Keelby (2pm), raising our team stength to eight definites.
He's fresh from a match-winning five-wicket haul, including hat-trick, for Owmby in Lincs League division two on Saturday.
Hope my opposing skipper, Ian Fletcher, is reading this. If not, one of his sons will be. Print it off for him, lads!

CHARITY MATCH UPDATE
The Lincs Cricket Latest squad is still being compiled for this coming Sunday's annual northern Lincolnshire veterans' charity match at Keelby CC (2pm start).
We've previous posted the "opposition" squad named by Ian Fletcher (Outcasts).
Here are OUR "definitely confirmed" - so far.
NIGEL FISHER (ex-Brigg Town and Brocklesby Park)
ANDY SHARP (Keelby)
STEVE SKIPWORTH (Keelby)
PETE BRIGGS (Keelby)
MIKE SAVAGE (Old Lincolnians)
KEITH DENT (ex-Police)
JIMMY SNEE (Gainsborough)
BOB LEAFE (Cleethorpes) could be added. We hope he'll be able to make it in the end.
Invitations have gone out to some more players, while there are others we've yet to ring.
Spectators will be very welcome on Sunday. Fundraising will be undertaken, with diabetes research/support this year's chosen worthy cause.
IF YOU ARE A VETERAN NOT NAMED ABOVE WHO'D LIKE A GAME, PLEASE EMAIL scoopfisher@aol.com OR LEAVE A MESSAGE ON THE MACHINE AT 01652 655134.
We like to get more than 11 in each squad, as we know that our "vintage" means players may have to drop out at short notice. Especially if they've had a testing game the previous day (this Saturday).

CAISTOR 3rds ROMP TO VICTORY AT RASE PARK
By Andy Richley, Market Rasen 2nds
Market Rasen Town Cricket Club 2nd XI played their last home game of the 2010 season in front of a sparse, but knowledgable Rase Park crowd on a typically sunny early September afternoon. Local rivals, Caistor Town 3rds, were the opposition for a Rase Park outfit who hadn’t lost a game at home since May Day and both teams approached the match with an eye on their 2011 campaigns. This season has seen improved fortunes for both sides, with Caistor bouncing back from last year’s relegation from Lincs League 3 to, at the very least, keep themselves in the promotion hunt until the last game of the season and Rasen 2nds putting in a solid mid-table season, after 2009’s brush with re-election.
Rasen won the toss and, somewhat suprisingly in retrospect, chose to bowl. Rasen opened with a mix of pace and spin and the tactic worked well at the River Rase end, where Luke Richards’ accurate off-spin stymied Nathan Davies and the aggressive Ryan McKitton. Unfortunately, things didn’t go so well at the other end, where a succession of seamers failed to stem the flow of runs, let alone ask questions of the batsmen.
McKitton opened his account with a crunching cover drive for four and cracked on from there. Whilst there were a few lofted drives that were near fielders, no genuine chance was given as the opener breezed to the fifth 50 of his Div 4 campaign. Timing the ball effortlessly and strong off both the front and back foot it was easy to see why McKitton has scored the volume of runs he has in 2010. Nathan Davies dug himself in for the duration at the other end with a watching brief and the pair had put on 73 in 13 overs before McKitton fell, caught and bowled, to Andy Richley for 52.
Having dismissed the danger-man for less than his average, Rasen looked to tighten things up and with Luke Chambers’ looping, left-arm spin initially baffling Peter Jacob, he and Richley pulled Rasen back into the game. Chambers trapped Nathan Davies LBW for a gritty 13 to leave Caistor 96 for 2 and with Dave Gowshall content to play himself in, Rasen reached the halfway point with a tenuous toe-hold on the game.
Unfortunately, Gowshall took a liking to Chambers after the break and both he and Jacob tucked into Dean Richards’ first spell with gusto to take the game away from Rasen. The pugnacious Gowshall punished the home attack with a brisk 41 as the pair put on 65 for the third wicket in quick time. The re-introduction of Richley stemmed the flow of runs and induced a middle-order collapse, with Gowshall skying a catch to cover, followed by Peter Jacob missing out on what would have been a deserved half-century for the youngster, steering the ball to gully for a fine 47. When Tim Brown was then gobbled up by Luke Chambers fine, low catch at slip, Caistor had fallen to 166 for 5.
With the game in the balance Matthew Brown (26) rallied the lower order and, with help from Will Jacob and a hard-hitting cameo from Alex McKitton (18), took the visitors to an imposing total of 223 for 9 from their 45 overs. Dean Richards closed out the Caistor innings with a double-wicket maiden, but it was too little, too late for the home side who, with the exception of Richley (6 for 37 from 14 overs), failed to execute consistently with the ball.
In spite of Caistor’s imposing total, Rasen’s batting was, on paper, more than capable of giving the Brigg Road outfit a run for their money. However, Alex Warmoth (3 for 18) and Tim Brown (2 for 14) proved too much for the home side’s top order, as the young lineup turned in a callow performance to be bowled out for 56 within 22 overs. Warmoth bowled with pace and aggression and the left-armer started the ball rolling, getting a ball to cut back and castle Dean Richards. Tim Brown, in contrast to Warmoth, bowled full and straight at a decent pace and wasn’t kept out of the action long, bowling George Fussey.
Once that man McKitton pouched Rob Chamberlin and Richley off Warmoth and Brown respectively, the writing was on the wall for Rasen, who were then further reduced to 21 for 5 when Warmoth bowled Luke Richards. Only a combative cameo from Luke Chambers gave the scoreboard anything approaching respectability as Caistor turned to the wiles of veterans Ernie Allison (1 for 16) and Terry McKitton to wrap things up. This McKitton duly did, his nouse being too much for the home side’s lower order as he picked up 4 for 7 to keep Caistor’s promotion hopes alive with an 167 run win.

SEASON'S BEST
YONDER WINDOW BREAKS

After a gap of 16 years, Luddington and Garthorpe were able to meet and play for the Phil Hanson Memorial Trophy last weekend in a light-heated fundraising day which saw the North Lindsey League Division Three side take on pub league runners-up at Luddington for the commemorative bat which has been adopted as old stalwart Hanson's Trophy.
Once everyone had arrived and teams were settled upon Luddington skipper Gareth Parkin elected to field first , the rules being that each side would bat the fully allotted 30 overs regardless of how many wickets fell and it was'nt long before Garthorpe were one down as Joe Woolhouse was caught by Ashley Carroll by Rick Green , two players who ironically were helping Luddington out following two withdrawals ! Established Outcasts Saturday players Matthew Teal and Scott Buttrick ( who took a hat trick for the Priorymen the day before ) then showed some excellent form as they put together a partnership of 72 before Buttrick had to retire having reached 35 then wickets began to fall more regularly as Ashley Carroll picked up 2 for 11 from his three allotted overs and Gareth Parkin 2 for 17 but it was Arron Curry who "wrecked the middle order" when picking up 4 for 11 from his three overs which included that of Darren Mchyluk who hit what many said was his best shot of the season only to see Darren Clark take a good catch in the deep ! Matthew Teal ( 27 and 20 ) added some late impetous to the score but by the end of the 30 overs the total had reached 159 for 13 giving the Luddington scoreboard a rather surreal look!!
Darren Clark and Gareth Parkin got the Luddington reply off to a brisk start before the latter was bowled by younster Joe Woolhouse, then Kristian Reed joined Clark to move the total on to 55 including a towering six into the hedge from Reed as he made his way to 11 before he was next to go , caught by Simon Rusling off Rob Clement. Barry O'Brien was promoted to number four but had reached just two when hat-trick hero Scott Buttrick bowled him and having reached the cut off point of 35 Clark made way for Andy Lawson who promptly dispatched his first delivery over the hedge and almost to Eastoft! Rick Green was at the other end and he too was enjoying batting against his Sunday pub league colleagues, bludgeoning the ball to all parts , then Lawson was weel caught by Buttrick on the boudary off Clements who finished with 2 for 22 from his three overs. That brought old head Geoff Smith to the middle and he instantly set about what he saw was his task of guiding Ludd to victory.
With the aggressive Green going well at the other end they took the total to 147 for 4 when Green had to retire on 35, but not before a sizzling four had smashed into the score hut window to break the pane, the first time that has ever happened in all the years that Luddington have been playing at the Park Lane ground!
Ashley Carroll hit a quick fire eight and Arron Curry six but it was somewhat ironic that Phil Hanson's buddy Jimmy Roe was left to hit the winning runs from his number 10 berth leaving Smith unbeaten on 26 and earning Ludd the win by 4 wickets on what had been a terrific afternoon's cricket.
Luddington CC would like thank Andy Curry and Ray Moore for their sterling work at the barbeque on the day and to Mandy and Kerry O'Brien who sold the raffle tickets. Secretary Glen Sands introduced Wendy Hanson and son Colin who were in attendance to present the Memorial Bat in honour of the much-missed Phil after which everyone retired just as the clouds blew over as if to signal that the enjoyable day was over. The money raised from the day was around £85, although there is still that window to be replaced - but the winner on the day was the game of cricket and the fond memories of the grand old man that was Phil Hanson, the like of which cricket will be lucky to see again.
A vote of thanks also goes to Dill Pullan and Rick Green Snr for their umpiring of the fundraiser. They performed with honesty and no lack of ready wit!
