NORTH LINDSEY LEAGUE CRICKET MAY 11, 2014 BY GLEN SANDS

Only two games survived the wet weather on May 11th in the Amazing Smile North Lindsey League and both were played in Division Three.

AMAZING SMILE NLL DIVISION ONE
The games at Brumby Hall between Appleby Frodingham and Alkborough , Haxey v Grimsby Town and Heslam Park where Scunthorpe Town were due to take on Broughton were all called off in the morning following heavy overnight rain.

Caistor Cougars stole a march on the rest of the teams in Division Two when they were informed early that Everton were unable to raise a team to travel for their Sunday fixture which means the Cougars pick up the three points whilst Hibaldstow v Blyth CC and the much awaited Isle derby between Outcasts and Luddington were called off through wet conditions which saw the points shared.

Newcomers Bawtry CC were able to play against Upton cum Kexby and their subsequent victory lifted them to the top of the table. The visitors batted first , setting a target of 99 all out thanks chiefly to opener Birkett who hit 41 , Terence Rogers taking 3 for 21 and Matthews 3 for 27 before Bawtry's Morley guided his side to 100 for 2 when making 56 not out. The one other game played to completion was at Normanby Park where Misterton were bowled out for 80 with Darren Emmingham hitting 44 , Alan Dawson taking 3 for 22 and Alex Barratt 3 for 25 for Normanby who replied with 81 for 6 , Donnelly top scoring with 26 as that man Emmingham picked up 3 for 26 for the Nottinghamshire side. Messingham were due to entertain South Kelsey at Northfield Road but were informed on May 8th that Kelsey had withdrawn from the league due to lack of playing members.

RESULT : NORMANBY PARK win by 4 wickets

May 18th sees the Amazing Smile NLL KO Cup commence with seven games scheduled involving clubs from all three divisions. Holders Alkborough make the defence of their trophy by travelling to Bawtry CC who have made a promising start to the seasonwhilst one of the favourites , Appleby Frodingham play hosts to Second Division Hibaldstow at Brumby Hall. First Division Scunthorpe Town head out to Everton to play on their artificial track and Broughton entertain Barton Vikings in a first v third encounter. Normanby Park have home advantage against First Division Grimsby Town whilst there is an all Division Two clash at Caistor who take on 100% so far Cleethorpes in what could be a terrific encounter.Finally Third Division Messingham take on Second Division Luddington with Ludd's Isle neighbours Outcasts gaining a bye following South Kelsey's withdrawal from the competition.
