CHAMPIONSHIPS CLINCHED BY CLEETHORPES AND APPLEBY-FRODINGHAM

Two of the three titles were decided in the Amazing Smile North Lindsey Cricket League on Sunday (September 8) as Scunthorpe team Appleby-Frodingham clinched the first division championship and Cleethorpes completed the cup and league double in the third tier, writes Glen Sands. But the destination of the second division league trophy remains up for grabs with a winner-takes-all showdown coming between Alkborough and Luddington.

AMAZING SMILE NLL DIVISION ONE
Appleby-Frodingham wrapped up the  title when beating old rivals Scunthorpe Town at Brumby Hall. The Steelmen posted a total of 197 for 8, largely thanks to Kieran Watson who hit 47 and Jack Dixon who contributed 38, Rory Franklin taking 4 for 59. Scunthorpe  were then bowled out for 94, Sounak Sen top scoring with 30 while Sara Sundaram picked up 3 for 2 for Frodingham.

AMAZING SMILE NLL DIVISION TWO
Alkborough could have clinched the title had they not lost to Haxey, who are now level with them at the top of the table. Oliver Tonks scored 64 and Ash Hooper 63 not out as Haxey made 183 for 6, Paul Mitchell taking 3 for 34 before his side were bowled out for 102, chiefly by Andy Steeper who took 4 for 21.   Outcasts are also level on points with Alkborough and Haxey  after they beat Messingham in a high scoring game at Hirst Priory. David Hobson hit 75, Charlie Mason 55 and Scott Buttrick 48 for the Isle side in a total of 220 for 3 after which Messingham replied with 190 for 9, Steve Cox making 49 and Danny Rands 48 as Jason Whiteley picked up 4 for 31 and skipper Liam McAnaney 4 for 55.

AMAZING SMILE NLL DIVISION THREE
Cleethorpes gained the win necessary to assure themselves of top spot when they beat a plucky Misterton side by four wickets at Chichester Road. Misterton were invited to bat first and scored 85, thanks in the main to Adam Hughes who made 36, with Fred Lumby taking 4 for 11 and David Mansfield 4 for 19. But it was not all plain sailing for the Meggies who were guided to 86 for 6 by Ian Hallam who scored 36 as they were made to battle hard. Liam Penrose's Blyth have had a terrific season and they clinched promotion when beating Everton. Glyn Coxhill scored 60 in Blyth's total of 171 for 9 with Chris Woods taking 4 for 41. Then Richard Chambers added to a splendid bowling performance for Everton by making 43 in their reply of 122.
