ALKBOROUGH BEAT GRIMSBY TOWN IN CUP FINAL

BY GLEN SANDS

The long awaited Amazing Smile North Lindsey Cricket League Cup Final proved to be a real thriller that went to the penultimate delivery before the destination of the trophy was decided. And it was the old head of Alkborough skipper Paul Mitchell who held his nerve in the end to guide his team home to the narrowest of wins.Grimsby Town batted first and set a very challenging total of 195 for 3 from their forty overs thanks to 75 from Ross Carnnell and 55 from Joe Baker and that target appeared to be beyond Alkborough despite Craig Ross making 57 and Matt Baxter 41 but cometh the hour cometh the man as Paul Mitchell proceeded to hit 46 not out including twelve off the final over to see his team home by just one wicket in a game that was a credit to the Amazing Smile NLL.
