GARMESH BRINGS DARCY LEVER ON TOUR

Ram and Gags reunited.

By Danielle Gavin (assisted by Garmesh Chand)

After a very boozy journey on Monday, we arrived in Lincolnshire to prepare for our first match. On Monday night the first select XI from our squad faced Owmby Cricket Club in a Twenty20 match at Todmoor.
Darcy Lever won the toss and captain Paul Smethurst had no hesitation to bat first on what looked like a decent deck. Former local cricketer Garmesh told the team that the track will stay low and slow and he was 100% correct.
Despite a rather slow innings, Darcy Lever managed to put 103 on the board, losing six wickets. Jimmy Hill, man of the match, hit the highest score of 36 not out, closely followed by Adam Rowan who managed 30.
Bad light made Owmby’s innings rather tough but saw a few old Owmby players in the likes of Ram Chand, Matt Rutherford and Jon Stanser back at Todmoor. Darcy Lever took eight wickets and Owmby level the score of 103. Matt Rutherford was Owmby's highest scorer with 26, while for Darcy Lever, Grant Cordin took three wickets for 19 runs off four overs. The match resulted in an exciting tie.

On Tuesday we made the journey to the new impressive ground of Louth Cricket Club. Captain for the day, Australian Jimmy Deering, won the toss and chose to bat first.
Despite rain stopping play for an hour and a half after the first two overs were bowled, Darcy Lever managed to put a very respectable 227 all-out in 37 out of 40 overs. Cameron Murray hit a blazing 60 off 58 balls, while latecomer Jack Southworth scored an unbelievable 68 runs from 31 balls.
Louth CC batted through their 40 overs, losing nine wickets and putting 206 on the board. Overseas pro Seth Rance smashed 61 for Louth off 61 balls with some massive sixes. Late resistance from Collinson and Graham West made for an interesting finish and Darcy Lever held on for the win. Dominic Gavin was the pick of the bowlers who took three wickets for 14 runs off seven overs for Darcy Lever.

NF adds: Just in case you didn't know, Darcy Lever play in the Bolton Association.
