A slow bowling fixture with Barton Town for many years, Dean Cressey has now started work as facilities manager at Cleethorpes CC, Chicester Road, where we spied him behind the bar earlier this week while visiting for the Grimsby League pre-season meeting.
Clearly practising at the Marsh Lane clubhouse has paid dividends for this fully paid up member of the Slow Bowlers' Union.
We wish him well in his new seaside berth!

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD WINNER
Picture and report from Graham Hackney, Cleethorpes CC
Cleethorpes Cricket Club's 15-year old-Ryan Harrison being presented with a cheque for £200 by President Ray Mawer (left) in recognition of being awarded the club's 2010 Scholarship award.
In his first full season playing senior cricket, Ryan scored almost 400 runs and the promising left-hander was rewarded for his consistent performances with his Yorkshire League debut against Harrogate towards the end of last season.
The winner of this award is chosen by the Selection Committee at Cleethorpes and Cricket Chairman Paul Hewstone (also pictured), explained: "Ryan was the unanimous winner of this award and if he continues to show the same commitment and application as he did last season then he will very quickly become an established Yorkshire League player, once he does that then who knows where he could end up?"
Paul went on to explain: "Ryan is one of the first Cleethorpes youngsters to take part in the newly created mentoring scheme and there can be no doubt a lot of his development is due to his close working relationship with his mentor, Bill Kirby."
MEGGIES' OVERSEAS PROFESSIONAL NAMED
Report and pictures from Graham Hackney, Cleethopes CC
Cleethorpes Cricket Club can confirm New Zealand International Peter Fulton will NOT be returning as overseas professional and captain for 2011.
Cricket Chairman Paul Hewstone explains: "Pete first let us know before Xmas he had a problem with his shoulder and after seeking advice from a specialist it was confirmed this type of injury would only improve with a period of sustained rest and/or an operation. After a short period of discussion Pete and I agreed it would therefore be best for him to get this sorted over the winter (our summer) and therefore not return to Cleethorpes."
Clearly a blow to Cleethorpes as Fulton, who scored over 900 runs in 2010, had also been elected Captain at the Club AGM in November. The club have reacted quickly to this news and James Osmond will again captain the 1st team, who compete in the ECB Yorkshire Premier League, whilst Omesh Wijesiriwardana (pictured) has been signed as Fulton's replacement.
He is a 28-year-old Sri Lankan quick bowler and supporters of Cleethorpes will remember Omesh from his swashbuckling guest appearance for the club in the 2009 T20 competition.
Omesh currently plays for Badureliya Sports Club in the Sri Lankan Premier League Tier A Tournament.
Hewsty added: "Of course it was a massive blow to lose Pete but Omesh is a quality bowler who has represented Sri Lanka A team and he was bowling at the Sri Lankan players in preparation for there recent World Cup game against England, which highlights his pedigree. Subject to his Visa clearance we should have Omesh available for the start of the season."
Cleethorpes' preparations for the season are now in full swing with winter nets currently being held at Franklin on a Wednesday evening, whilst the final preparations to the ground will be done during the Natwest Cricketforce weekend which is on the 9/10 April.
Friendly fixtures are arranged in advance of the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire League seasons which start on April 23.

SEVEN YET TO GET CRACKING
Seven clubs have yet to start registering their players through the ECB's Play Cricket system for Lincolnshire County Cricket League duty this season - even though the season is only a few weeks away. Several other clubs have registered just a few players so far - less than a full side.
To avoid a huge glut coming through at once in mid-April, it would be greatly appreciated if a start could be made by those club/team officials who have yet to put fingers to keyboard.
Full instructions were emailed to clubs some weeks ago. This information also appears on the Lincs League's Play Cricket website and can be accessed on your club's home page by clicking on the FAQ heading in the green bar at the top. There's also a link available to tap into the expertise of the ECB Helpdesk people, who are very helpful.
At 11am on Friday, March 25 we had 642 registered players for the Lincs League's 49 teams. We think the final number ought to be close to 1,000. So there's quite a way still to go.
Please note:
Category 1 is for players qualified to play for England;
Category 2 is for current first class players;
Category 3 is for 'overseas players' of which each Lincs League club is allowed one;
Category 3 Exempt is for non-English born players who have now lived in the UK for at least two years. Club administrators seeking Category 3E status for players need to enter the date the player last entered the UK (it will be on his/her passport). Only the League administrator can then change the category to 3E and approve the registration.
This is the ECB required way of doing things online and must be complied with.
For ALL categories of players, please note that the address and phone number boxes on the online registration form have been put there by the ECB for a good reason and need completing. The club will have contact details for all its players. Please provide sufficient information to allow the League and/or the ECB to contact all our registered players, should the need arise.

IMPORTANT MEETING
The Lincolnshire County Cricket League's next meeting will be at Rase Park, Market Rasen, on Wednesday, April 20 (7.30pm). Handbooks and match balls will be distributed. And there will be time set aside for any questions clubs may have as the league gets ready to embrace Play Cricket, the ECB website to be used to handle all registrations and scorecards (rather than paper forms and sheets).

MEMORABLE DINNER THOROUGHLY ENJOYED
Vice-president Charles Arnold with the wonderful array of trophies for both leagues he helped to set out ahead.
Last night's joint annual dinner of the John Pettit Grimsby and District League and the Lincolnshire County Cricket League proved very successful and enjoyable.
Lamb was the main course, which made a nice change, many of us thought. And the speakers - first class umpire Jeff Evans (pictured below) and Cleethorpes stalwart Howard Swain - were very well received.
I've penned different reports for the Grimsby Telegraph (which kindly sent a photographer along), the Scunthorpe Telegraph and the Lincolnshire Echo, which should be appearing over the next few days.
So be sure to snap up a copy of your chosen local paper!
Glossy upmarket magazine The Journal will also be receiving some table groups for inclusion in the society section in due course. Could yours be one of our table groups the editor chooses to use?
More from our extensive batch of pictures taken last night will appear in the Lincolnshire League Handbook 2011 (going to press shortly), on the Lincs League website and others like www.briggpeople.co.uk
AND LAST, BUT NOT LEAST, KEEP WATCHING LINCS CRICKET LATEST FOR UPLOADS OF IMAGES FROM THE DINNER AS WE FIND THE TIME - GRIMSBY LEAGUE AND LINCOLNSHIRE LEAGUE AWARD WINNERS INCLUDED.
South Kelsey secretary Mike Owen enjoying last night's event.
Where would we have been without efficient service behind the bar?
Outcasts' trio Russ Fletcher (left), Richard Wroot and Liam McAnaney.
Alkborough's Andy 'Chippy' Clay (left) in reflective mood as he chats to Craig Ross.
Howard Swain explaining how the Lincolnshire League came into being in 1963.
We didn't make it a black tie dinner so no-one could complain about pink!
Keelby's Steve Skipworth (left) and John Indian.
Pete (left) and Jon Taylor. Jon, from Hibaldstow, was again named groundsman of the year for his immaculate village square.
A view of some of the tables.
That's all for now, folks! Keep watching Lincs Cricket Latest for more pictures.
PARK BOYS STARTING NETS
Brocklesby Park Cricket Club nets start on Tuesday, March 22 at 8pm at the Ancholme Leisure Centre, Scawby Brook, near Brigg. Three sessions have been pencilled in - same venue, same time.
TRIBUTE TO UMPIRE NEV
From Sally Newton
Nev Warrener passed away this week after a battle with cancer, his funeral is being held at Lincoln Crematorium at 9.50 on Wednesday 23rd March. It would be nice to see as many faces as possible who remember him as an umpire and friend to gather to celebrate his life. It’s a terrible loss for Lincolnshire cricket.
NF adds: We gather Nev was 66. A tribute already received describes him as a genuinely nice bloke who always umpired with a laugh and a smile, adding that he will be sadly missed on the circuit. Our condolences are extended to his family and friends.

WATER BOWSER ON OFFER
Brigg Town Council has a now-redundant water bowser for sale and is hoping that advertising on the internet will do the trick. It would suit a cricket club for ground watering purposes.
The bowser used to be pulled round town to water the colourful hanging baskets and flower tubs, but that job is now undertaken by a contractor with different equipment.
Coun Mel Oades (pictured), the Hibaldstow CC seam bowler, has taken on the task of trying to generate a bit of income for the council by alerting potential buyers and seems confident of success.
“Many people use them, including sports clubs,” he told his colleagues on the Property and Services Committee when they met in the Angel Suite.
The Town Council is also looking to sell some floral crockery, which might be useful to supplement your club's tea service (pardon the pun!)Interested buyers wanting further information should email the Town Council - enquiries@briggmarkettown.co.uk

SCORSHEETS ON PLAY CRICKET
By Nigel Fisher, Lincs League Results Secretary
Early March sees us with about 400 player registrations approved for Lincolnshire County Cricket League matches - which is about half the number we expect to get eventually.
Ann Boulton has kindly supplied information about how to do things, for the benefit of clubs yet to start (also a useful reminder to those that have started).
ANN HAS ALSO SUPPLIED INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO ENTER SCORESHEETS.
Please store this away carefully. However, as a back-up, we are putting it on the Lincs League Play Cricket home page and on the Lincs Cricket Latest website.
ENTERING SCORESHEETS ON PLAY-CRICKET WEBSITE
On your club website, go into admin then fixtures. Find the relevant fixture and click on the icon with the pencil. This brings up the front sheet on which you enter the result. Use the drop down boxes for who won the toss and the overall result – win, lose, draw, tie etc.
Make sure you indicate which team batted first then put in the runs and wickets for each team and how many overs were played in their innings.
PUT IN THE BONUS POINTS ONLY. You do not need to enter win/draw points as the system is set up to automatically add these on from the result you entered in the drop down box above. The box at the bottom can be used for any highlights you would like to add.
Click Save. This brings up the team batting first. All registered players are listed at the side of the team list – just click on the ones you want in order and they will go into the list. Indicate captain and wicketkeeper – THIS IS IMPORTANT AS WICKETKEEPING STATS WILL BE CALCULATED FROM INFORMATION ENTERED.
If a player does not appear on the registered players, click unsure at the top. This will indicate to whoever checks the sheets that there is a missing registration.
Click Save Team and the team batting second will come up – repeat the operation and Save Team again.
The scorecard will then come up with all the players names in batting order, how out in the first drop down box for you to select and the names of the opposition in the other boxes for you to click on catcher/bowler etc. The runs will be added up automatically and should equal those put on the result on the opening page.
Put in team score at fall of wicket and again use drop down menu for man out.
In the bottom box, click on drop down menu for bowler’s name. His wickets should come up automatically so you only have to enter overs, maidens and runs.
Click Save Scorecard at the bottom and do the same process for the team batting second. When you have saved this, the full scorecard will come up and your job is done!
You may find that when you have entered a scorecard, the system tells you that the bowling/batting figures don’t add up. Check back that you have entered everything correctly and if it still shows, unless you have the scorebook in front of you to go through the figures, you will have to click the relevant button to ignore it as you have no other way of checking.
HOW DO TO REGISTRATIONS (REMINDER SUPPLIED BY ANN BOULTON)
Find your club on the Lincs League's play-cricket.com website by using the drop down menu – go to club, then Lincolnshire, then type in your club’s name and when details appear, click on homepage.
To register players:
1. Log in, then go into admin. Click on Members on left hand menu, then on member database. This will bring up all the people whose names are on your database.
2. For those you wish to register as league players, click on the middle icon by their name. This will bring up a screen which gives you the option to assign a role to them.
3. Click on league registered player then complete the form accordingly – you must enter date of birth and a postcode. If your player doesn’t wish his address to appear, register him c/o your club with its postcode.
4. All players with a British passport or who qualify by residency are category 1. Overseas players (ie not qualified to play for England) are category 3 and you will need the date they lasted entered this country.
5. When you have completed the details, click on Save Player Details then “apply” in the box under status and then “save”. Another page comes up on which you click Nominate Player.
6. If a player is not already on the database, after stage 1 above, click on “create new member of the website”. This will bring up a box in which you enter basic details – you must enter date of birth.
7. Save this and another screen will come up which gives you the option of roles for this player. Click on “league registered player” as before and this will bring up the screen on which you enter the player’s details.
Unless a player is registered as a “league registered player” specifically on the website, he or she will not appear on your team list when you enter your scoresheet on the site.

TAKE ALONG YOUR LAPTOP
The Yorkshire League now uses an on-line scoring system with laptops that gives a ball-by-ball update on the league website during matches. The Lincs ECB Premier is looking at this and is having a demo.
If there are any "techies" within Lincs League clubs who might like to have a look they are very welcome to attend.
A demonstration of the ECB On Line Scoring system has been arranged with Steve Ward from the Yorkshire League at 10.15am on Saturday, 19th March at the University Sports Centre on Brayford Wharf East, LN6 7TS - pick up a free parking pass from reception on arrival.
The demo will probably take about two hours and all clubs in the county are welcome to attend.

HARRY'S DREAM REALISED

Former Lincolnshire Minor Counties skipper Harry Pougher received our county's Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by fellow ex-county captain and Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire player, Mark Fell.
Harry was also presented with the coveted Wilkinson Sword, won by his club, Lindum CC (Lincoln).
Former England skipper Mike Atherton - coached by Harry in his youth - sent a tribute, and Harry - and wife Steph - are seen with the warm message, which has been framed for them.
Below is the citation put forward by Lindum:
Harry Pougher was born in Scunthorpe on February 1, 1941. I worked in Scunthorpe in the late 1950s and can recall first hearing about Harry when reading about him scoring a lot of runs playing for Appleby-Frodingham whilst still at Scunthorpe Grammar school. One of his mentors at Appleby Frodingham was the late Jack Todd. Harry made his debut for Lincolnshire County CC, at age 18, in 1959. His last game for Lincs was in 1988. Harry was also a good footballer and played for Ashby Institute - at that time Scunthorpe's top football team. Harry went to Carnegie teachers' training college (which specialised in PE) and got a job at a school in the Isle of Axholme.
When Harry got a job as head of PE at the Robert Pattinson school in Hykeham he and Steph moved to Lincoln, where he played his cricket with Ruston Bucyrus. But when the firm folded in the late 1980s the cricket club went out of existence and Harry started his connection with the Lindum, where he played - as skipper - until 1990. Somewhat surprisingly, Harry never played for Lincolnshire's Over-50 side after he turned 50; indeed he never played any cricket at all after reaching this age. Instead, he devoted his energies to developing junior cricket, particularly at the Lindum, where he has been the chairman for the last 20 years. His devotion to this has resulted in the Lindum now fielding ten sides in the league, with spectacular success last season when all three county cups were won by Lindum sides and the Under 13s reached the national finals of the Ken Barrington Cup competition. Harry was instrumental in the Lindum achieving ECB Clubmark status, which in turn has attracted grant aid for a number of projects.
Harry became a top coach, one of the few non-professionals to coach at top level. He received an award for this at a ceremony at Trent Bridge a couple of seasons ago. Future England captain Mike Atherton was one of the youngsters he coached - and Mike remembered him during the award ceremony. Harry also ran coaching sessions to benefit local youngsters. Harry was also active as the chair of Lincolnshire Cricket Association for many years.

ISLE SWITCH PROPOSED
It was a welcome boost for cricket in the Isle of Axholme - roughly the area between the River Trent and the South Yorkshire border - when Epworth managed to field a team in the North Lindsey League, on Sundays, last summer, after a gap of many years.
Now, following a meeting of that league, Lincs Cricket Latest gathers that the Epworth side wishes to be known as Isleonians.
We also understand a request has been submitted to play home games at Belton, rather than in the world-famous home village of John Wesley, the Methodist founder.
There hasn't been any cricket on the old square at Belton for many years. But, of course, it staged games to a high standard when the village club was thriving.
We know the North Lindsey League, and the club, will keep all relevant folk informed of what's happening prior to the start of the season. And when Lincs Cricket Latest gets to know, we'll be happy to inform the wider cricket-following public in the northern half of the county.
If - and we stress, if - the Belton facilities are not approved by the league, and we aren't suggesting they won't, there's always the last resort option to ask for permission to play all games away from home.
There is a recent precedent in the North Lindsey League.
