A full complement of 36 teams will contest the three divisions on the South
Lincolnshire & Border League, writes ANN BOULTON.
With the return of two Long Sutton teams and the admission of Freiston,
the league now has 12 teams in each of what been renamed Premier, First and
Second Divisions.
Last year’s title contenders Stamford Town start their 2013 challenge
with a home game against Moulton Harrox while newly-promoted Welby will test
their strength against Woodhall Spa 2nd who are once again skippered
by Rob Bee.
Skegness 2nd will take their new Australian signing, 19 year
old Trevor Walton, to Belton Park and
the final game sees Bourne 2nd travel to Sleaford.
In Division One, Long Sutton’s 1st XI take on Heckington at
Paradise Field with the visitors hoping to welcome back Damon Tunnicliffe who
was sidelined last season by a broken leg.
Market Deeping, demoted at the end of 2012, face a tough game against
last year’s second place teams, Stamford Town 2nd while Spalding 2nd
– with promotion now open to them following the departure of the 1st
XI to the ECB Premier League – get their challenge under way at home to Boston
2nd.
Friskney, who gained promotion in their first season in the league,
entertain Thomas Cook.
Following a nomadic 2012 which was also badly affected by the weather,
this season will see Lindum 3rds with a permanent home at Sobraon Barracks in Lincoln
where the new ground is now ready for play.
But the young Division Two side have to wait until May 5 to try out the
new facilities, starting their season away to Welby 2nd.
Claypole and Grantham 2nd both saw an improvement in form in
2012 and start 2013 with games away to Boston 3rd
and home to newly-demoted Cavaliers respectively.
