From Colin Kennedy and Bob Welton, League Chairmen
Jeff Evans, First Class Umpire, will be the guest speaker at the joint annual dinner and presentation evening of the John Pettit Grimsby & District Cricket League and the Lincolnshire County Cricket League. It will be held at McMenemy’s, Blundell Park, Cleethorpes (home of Grimsby Town FC), on Thursday, March 17th, at 7.30pm.
As chairmen of our respective leagues, we hope that every club will be represented, and not only those who are to receive trophies. The officials of both leagues have agreed that the proceedings should ‘broadly’ follow last year’s event.
This time it is the turn of the John Pettit Grimsby & District Cricket League to host the dinner. Howard Swain (Cleethorpes CC), will propose a toast to ‘the guests’, to which there will be no response.
It is our custom to invite our final speaker to propose a toast to ‘the game of cricket’. We are delighted to inform you that Jeff Evans, First Class Umpire, has accepted our invitation to entertain you. The toastmaster will be Steve Metham, president of the Grimsby & District League.
Due to an increase in food prices we have had to increase the ticket price to £25 with a silver service menu. The bar will open at 6.45pm, but will close during the speeches.
Early application by clubs and league officials should be made to assistant treasurer Mick Barton using the enclosed form, no later than February 28th, 2011. No tickets will be allocated before this date and any remaining after it will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Ticket money may be refunded up to Saturday, March 12th, 2011.
Ticket sales will be limited to a maximum of 200. All cheques should be made payable to Grimsby & District Cricket League. No tickets will be issued until payment has been received. This is a strict rule and there can be no complaint by your club if requests are not received in time, with the necessary payment, and thus are not considered. It follows therefore, that the assistant treasurer will not be available to receive money on the evening of the dinner, as we feel that all our officials should be free to enjoy the evening.
Again this year we are addressing the embarrassment of trophy winners being absent. Clubs are asked to arrange for a substitute to provide cover, to enable the presentation to run smoothly. Could we also remind all teams that trophies must be returned to Gradely Sports, Corporation Road, Grimsby, immediately.
We thank you for your work for cricket in general, and in particular our two leagues.
