MEGGIES HOST MINOR SIDE

By Graham Hackney, Cleethorpes CC

A very young Cleethorpes Academy side saw Woodhall amass a mammoth 279-7 in the 40 overs of their East Lindsey clash. Ian Mansfield took 2/30 in seven while Callum Robinson recorded 3/40 off his seven overs. George Hawkey and Jordan Cook also added wickets. Robinson made a good fist of the reply with a fighting 37 with Greg Hornby hitting 20 before the Academy were bowled out for 119 in the 30th over.

This weekend sees the 1st X1 travel to lowly Harrogate on Saturday, eager to get their season back on track after the early promise. Cleethorpes 2nd X1 entertain Broughton at Chichester Road (1pm start) knowing they are one win off the top of the Premier League. Cleethorpes 3rds are victims of the fixture computer that has left them without a game for the next three Saturdays. Cleethorpes 4ths take on Owmby at the Stamford Club this Saturday (1.30pm start).

There are no Sunday games for Cleethorpes this week as centre stage is taken by the county with the club playing host to Lincolnshire against Nothumberland in a Minor Counties three-day clash.
The recent hot spell should provide excellent batting conditions for Lincs who locals will hope field Cleethorpes opener Bill Kirby in their starting line-up.
Play begins each day at 11am and entrance is free with refreshments available to all in the clubhouse.

The fine action picture from Graham Hackney shows experienced Cleethorpes batsman Bob Leafe in action. Bob is one of the current Meggies squad to have played Minor Counties cricket for Lincolnshire.
