A
cricketing legend who has enjoyed more than 50 years in the game is the guest
at the December meeting of the Lincolnshire Cricket Lovers’ Society, writes ANN BOULTON.
Dennis
Amiss MBE will be at Cleethorpes Cricket Club on December 11 to talk about his
long career as a player and later as an administrator.
The former
Warwickshire and England batsman scored more than 43,000
runs and is one of the few batsmen to have score 100 first class centuries, a
feat he achieved in 1986
As an England player, he hit an unbeaten 262
against the West
Indies in
the 1973-74 test series and followed it up with 206 at the Oval in 1976 against
an attack that included Michael Holding and Andy Roberts.
In the
early days of limited over cricket, he also became the first batsman to hit a
century in One Day Internationals. Amiss went
on to become CEO of Warwickshire and deputy chairman of the ECB before retiring
in 2011.
The evening
begins at 7.30pm and is free to Society members and £5 for guests.
