LINCOLNSHIRE UMPIRES TO HOLD TRAINING COURSE

The Lincolnshire Association of Cricket Officials are organising a Level 1A Umpires Course for members who would like to improve their knowledge and understanding of the Laws of Cricket and their skills as an umpire. It is designed for those members who would like to progress further and also as a revision course.

Gareth Dowson,  the Publicity Officer and Training Co-ordinator, would like to hear from any member who would like to take the course which will be held at:

BRACEBRIDGE HEATH CRICKET CLUB PAVILION on Saturday 21^st MARCH and Saturday 28^th MARCH 2015 from 10am to 4pm each day.

SCUNTHORPE UMPIRES START 8-WEEK TRAINING COURSE ON MONDAY

Scunthorpe and District Cricket Umpires' Association starts an eight-week training course for new umpires at 7am on Monday, October 6, at Appleby-Frodingham Cricket Club's Brumby Hall cricket pavilion, off Ashby Road, Scunthorpe (near the Pods leisure centre).
Those interested are asked to turn up ahead of the start time on Monday night, or attend on subsequent Mondays. There is no charge for the tuition.
Last autumn, SIX people successfully completed the course and went on to umpire in league games during 2014.

SEPTEMBER 20 SOUTH LINCOLNSHIRE & BORDER CRICKET LEAGUE

SOUTH LINCOLNSHIRE & BORDER LEAGUE

September 20^th

Just one game remains in the South Lincolnshire & Border League’s 2014 season when Division Two’s Burgh & District take on Belton Park 2^nd next weekend.

In the Premier Division Welby finished on a high note with a four wicket win over Long Sutton but were unable to overhaul Stamford Town to lift themselves out of the bottom two.

But Moulton Harrox made it into the top six after a poor start to the season with a five wicket win over Sleaford 2nd.

The Division One championship went right to the wire with Grantham 2^nd emulating their first team to finish top with Spalding 2^nd 15 points behind in second place.

Danny Bates ended his season with a flourish, hitting an unbeaten 113 in Grantham’s victory over Woodlands but Simon Jukes missed out on his century, falling for 93 in Spalding’s game against Long Sutton which had to be abandoned because of bad light with a handful of overs remaining.

Chris King made the highest total of the day with 176 not out and Shane George took six wickets as Billingborough 2^nd beat Baston to finish third in the division.

Lindum 3^rd secured the Division Two title with a win over Belton Park 2^nd, with Freiston taking second place despite going down to Boston 3^rd.  Four bowlers claimed five wicket hauls in this division, Zakir Gatta of Freiston, Boston 3rd’s Steve Appleyard, Carl Lamming of Pinchbeck and Tony Beardsley whose five for 30 helped Burgh & District to a victory that kept them out of the bottom two.

LINCOLNSHIRE CRICKET LOVERS’ SOCIETY

JOHN INVERDALE LAUNCHES SOCIETY’S 50^TH SEASON

The Lincolnshire Cricket Lovers’ Society celebrates its 50^th season in style with visits from two famous names in the world of sport.

TV commentator John Inverdale launches the season on Thursday, October 7^th when he visits Cleethorpes Cricket Club for the Society’s first meeting of the winter.

Inverdale began his journalistic career with the Lincolnshire Echo and BBC Radio Lincolnshire and is now a versatile presenter who covers a multitude of TV sporting events.

His talk begins at 7.30pm but there is an opportunity to meet and talk to him prior to this at a buffet that begins at 6.45pm.

The buffet and the talk are free to Society members and just £5 for guests.

To book a place, cheques should be sent to the Treasurer at 22 Margaret Place, New Waltham, Grimsby DN36 4NR by Thursday, October 2^nd.

In December, the Society will welcome former England batsman Dennis Amiss while the remaining two evenings, in November and January, feature authors of two very different books – Brian Halford’s story of The Real Jeeves and Grahame Lloyd’s fascinating account of his hunt for the genuine ball that Gary Sobers hit for six sixes.

Admission for guests to all these talks is £5, payable at the door.
