CAISTOR TOWN CRICKET CLUB SPORTSMAN DINNER WITH GEOFF MILLER - CHAIRMAN OF SELECTORS

Caistor Town Cricket Club will be hosting a Sportsman’s dinner on Friday 22nd March 2013 with Geoff Miller, Chairman of England Cricket team selectors as their guest.   The event, entitled; “An Evening with Geoff Miller”, is sponsored by Cherry Valley and will take place at Forest Pines Hotel, Broughton. The event is being held to raise funds towards the work of the club’s Junior Cricket Academy which is sponsored by Paul Wiseman Electrical Contractors.
Geoff a former Derbyshire, Essex, Natal and England Player, and now Chairman of England Cricket Selection Committee, is also renowned as an entertaining After-Dinner Speaker.
Geoff, affectionately known as "Dusty" spent 20 years on the professional cricket circuit during which he travelled to all the major Test-playing countries. For England he played 34 Test Matches; 25 One Day Internationals; 7 Overseas Tours; scored over 14,000 runs and played with or against some of the greatest players in the game. To which he freely admits: "I wasn’t one of them!"
In his own words: "I was a comparatively boring bread and butter cricketer who was only selected in the team to allow all the brilliant flair players to perform with freedom".
Apart from his cricket prowess, Geoff Miller’s greatest attribute was the ability to reduce his team-mates to stitches with his hilarious dry Northern humour - which he now brings to the after dinner speaking stage. He is now one of the funniest speakers on the circuit, with a stream of hilarious anecdotes. There are wild nights in the West Indies, tales of misadventure in Australia and rivalries nearer home.
He has found his speaking career just as stimulating as facing Michael Holding and Dennis Lillee, or bowling at Viv Richards and Ian Botham (As Ian Botham’s ex-room-mate for five years, he has a few funny stories to tell about that).
What distinguishes Geoff from most sporting after dinner speakers is his ability to reach audiences without an ounce of interest in sport. His timing and self-deprecating turn of phrase mark him out as a classic raconteur.
Reg Percival, the event organiser at Caistor Town Cricket Club, said “To secure Geoff is a great coup for the club. This is our third annual sportsman’s dinner and we are confident, given his reputation, that Geoff will be as bigger draw as our past speakers were. His experience, knowledge and jocular take on cricket and other things makes him a great draw for any lover of humour. We are expecting a strong demand for tickets and would recommend people purchase them as early as possible.”
Tickets are now available at £37 per person, or £345 for a table of ten, and include a three course dinner. Dress code is smart (jacket & tie). To purchase a ticket contact Reg Percival on 07801 046040 or email
