GRIMSBY KEEPER LEADS THE WAY

The lower half of the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League table provides the match of the day as Woodhall Spa in 10th entertain Nettleham who are one place below. Only one point separates the two teams so a move away from the bottom two is the prize for the winner.
Slightly higher up, just one point also separates Boston and Skegness – eighth and seventh respectively - who meet at the Mayflower Ground with a place in the top six the possible reward for the victors.
Leaders Bracebridge Heath are away at sixth placed Louth while Market Deeping have a home game against Hartsholme who travel to Outgang Road fresh from their first win of the season.
Deeping have an 18 point lead on third placed Lindum, visitors to London Road to take on bottom side Sleaford whose captain Oliver Burford is recovering well and hopes to be back in the side shortly.
Grimsby, who are two points adrift of Lindum, are the guests at Bourne whose progress up the table suffered a setback last weekend.
Warren Nel’s ton for Hartholme last week took him to the top of the runs table and the South African will undoubtedly be anticipating more runs on the good Deeping pitch.
Nel also has 16 wickets to his credit but Bourne’s Fahad Masood has now reached 25 and Matthew Crowther’s six dismissals for Louth last week put him just one behind Grimsby’s Steve Crossley in the wicketkeeping table.
After last Monday’s washout, a new date is being organised for the Winkworth Cup semi-finals and final which are likely to be held on a Sunday in July.

Caistor Cougars beat defending Champions Cleethorpes 5ths to take a three points lead at the top of Division One on Sunday , Andrew Pearson top scoring with 56 as they made 173 for 9 then bowled Cleethorpes out for 145 and Grimsby Town 3rds joined Messingham 3rds on six points when beating them at Augusta Street , bowling Messingham out for 150 thanks chiefly to Connor Hawkins who took 4 for 20 , Richard Dannatt hitting 50 and Danny Rands 41 for the visitors who managed just four wickets of their own when Grimsby eased to 154 with Steve Crossley hitting 79. Finally in Division One Barton Acadamy Vikings picked up their first win of the league season when beating Appleby Frodingham 3rds by 67 runs at Marsh Road , Reece Ogle scoring an exceptional 125 with Shafqat taking 3 for 6 late in the innings for the Steelmen who reached 169 for 5 in reply , Jack Dixon hitting 53 not out and Vince Grimes 38 with that man Ogle taking 3 for 52 for the Vikings.

Oliver Tonks was in top form for Haxey 3rds as they beat Hibaldstow 2nds by seven runs , the young skipper scoring 99 not out ( he needed two from the last delivery ) whilst Danny Bullock hit 39 for the Isle side who set a target of 191 for 4 which the visitors just failed to reach despite 87 from Lee Robinson , Ethan Tonks taking 3 for 48 to keep it in the family ! Broughton 3rds joined three other sides on six points when beating Barton Town 4ths by a massive 197 runs. Nick Dobbs hit 70 with both James Watson and Paul Musslewhite scoring 37 in a big total of 241 for 9 then Robbie Glentworth took 4 for 8 as Barton were bowled out for just 44.

Leaders Everton 3rds suffered their first defeat of the season when they were beaten by Broughton 4ths, Everton being bowled out for 121 with Eddie Campbell top scoring on 32 as Craig Hall took 4 for 44 then he made 26 along with Jake Parker as Broughton squeezed to 122 for 9 , Gulrez Rehman taking an impressive 6 for 51 for the villagers. Upton cum Kexby have won both of their opening games , the latest when posting 210 for 3 against yet to win Normanby Park with 56 from Hayden Green and 52 from M Green , Normanby being bowled out for 94 in reply with Mark Knapton top scoring on 29 and Misterton 2nds were endebted to skipper Darren Emmingham who took 3 for 41 and then hit 90 not out against Luddington who set a target of 145 thanks chiefly to Andy Lawson's 46 out on the Isle. Finally Bottesford were beaten by Isleonians in a low scoring affair at Birch Park , Rick Green taking 6 for 21 as Bottesford were skittled out for 42 , although Isleonians lost eight wickets in overhauling their opponents for whom Shah took 4 for 6.

Cleethorpes 1st slipped to a second successive Yorkshire league defeat at Barnsley on Saturday, losing by 43 runs. They were dealt a blow even before travelling with newly arrived Sri Lankan professional Omesh Wijisarewardana going with an overnight stomach bug that ruled him out. Nathan Judah was recalled at short notice and Barnsley promptly opted to bat after Skipper James Osmond lost the toss. Andy Ellis immediately struck a blow for Cleethorpes capturing opener Wilson lbw with just four runs on the board. Nuttall seemed destined to follow in Ellis’ next over but the batsman was given the benefit by the umpire. Nuttall and Ex-Yorkshire batsmen Simon Widdup then went on to compile a fluent stand of 72 for the second wicket as the early threat of Ellis and Jack Harrison was seen off. Alex Osmond was introduced in the twelfth over and despite being hit for two early boundaries made the breakthrough for Cleethorpes trapping Widdup in front as the opener attempted to sweep. With brother James tying one end up, Cleethorpes were finally able to exert some pressure as the overs began to tick away. Nuttall passed fifty in 72 balls but was becoming becalmed and the hundred was brought up in the 28th over. Alex Osmond trapped Barnsley skipper Booth in front in identical fashion to Widdup and in his next over saw brother James dive forward to take a great catch to send back Rafiq. At 114-4 Cleethorpes were now right back in the game. James Osmond had bowled a great containing spell of 0/23 in 11 overs when they were dealt what turned out to be a serious blow. Wilkinson hit a well-timed drive in the air and James, attempting to take another diving catch came up grasping his hand. After being lead from the field and off to hospital, Cleethorpes worst fears were later to be confirmed as the Skipper had broken a finger. Clewett took over and removed Nuttall, who had moved slowly to 73, with only his fourth delivery as he played back to a ball that kept low and was again adjudged lbw. From here the innings limped along with Osmond and Clewett taking a stranglehold of the Barnsley batting. Osmond claimed his fourth lbw and had Bullingham stumped to bring up his first five wicket haul of the season. Clewett trapped Coomber in front for Cleethorpes’ sixth lbw decision as Barnsley closed on 191-8 after their 55 overs. Osmond finished with 5/60 in a marathon 21-over spell with Clewett (2/24 in 8 overs) keeping things tight at the other end. A target of 192 would prove a tough ask with a batsman down and the pitch playing lower and lower.
Bill Kirby and Rory Osmond once again got Cleethorpes off to a promising start. With both players taking every opportunity to get onto the front foot they slowly began to see off the threat of the Barnsley seamers. The fifty stand was brought up in the 18th over with both players growing in confidence. It took the introduction of Barnsley spinner Wilkinson to break the stand as Kirby, having reached a solid 30 in 69 balls, played loosely off his legs to be snapped up at short midwicket. Osmond (24) followed four overs later playing back to Wilkinson and being wrapped on the pads. With Yaniv Judah (9) and Charlie Tomlinson (6) falling lbw in quick succession Cleethorpes had slipped to 77-4 as the game ebbed away. Alex Osmond and James Windeatt briefly looked to dominate as the pair adopted a more positive approach. Osmond finally got after Wilkinson hitting him for consecutive boundaries while Windeatt struck Ivill for a four and a six as the pair added a quick-fire 27. Any hope was soon erased as both departed in successive overs. Osmond (16), attempting to keep out a Wilkinson delivery that again kept low could only scoop the ball to midwicket while Windeatt’s ugly sweep at Widdup saw him bowled for 16. Jack Harrison and Harry Clewett showed some fight adding 22 for the seventh wicket before Widdup accounted for Harrison (10) and Nathan Judah two balls later to take the number of lbw decisions on the day to 11. With ten overs to survive, Clewett and Andy Ellis dug in as they had done a week earlier at Rotherham. With James Osmond prepared to come out to bat if needed, the pair showed admirable defence to keep the Barnsley spinners at bay. With one point secure they saw off the threat as the innings closed out at 148-8. Clewett innings of 25 had taken 56 balls with Ellis’ 8 lasting 28 deliveries.

Cleethorpes cricket club hosted one of the regional heats of the Yorkshire league Twenty20 at Chichester Road on Sunday. After three tight games played on a round-robin basis Hull went through to play in the finals day at Scarborough in June. The first game of the day saw hosts Cleethorpes play Appleby-Frodingham. Frod won the toss and asked Cleethorpes to bat in blustery early morning conditions. Despite losing Eddie Carlton to the first ball of the innings, stand in Skipper Charlie Tomlinson and Alex Osmond soon broke loose as the Scunthorpe sides bowling was thrashed to all parts. Tomlinson in particular was in commanding form hitting 49 in just 25 balls with three massive sixes to accompany his five boundaries. He was second man out having added 77 for the second wicket in the ninth over. Frodingham’s keen fielding was keeping them in the game and the importance of wickets became apparent as Cleethorpes soon lost Windeatt (8) and Kirby (0) in quick succession. Osmond eventually departed for 39 (40 balls) but only Rory Osmond’s 18 sheparded Cleethorpes to their final total of 144 all out with the final wicket failing in the final over. After such a fine start Cleethorpes would think they were at least twenty runs under par. In reply Frod lost two quick wickets but a brilliant third wicket stand of 95 between Fowler (48 in 34 balls) and Day (45 in 38) appeared to have taken the game away from Cleethorpes. At 108-2 Harry Clewett came into the attack and he and Alex Osmond immediately slowed the run rate while Clewett claimed both Fowler and Day. With the run rate rising the Frod batsmen began to panic as wickets continued to clatter. Three late run outs did not help as they went into the final over needing 14 to win. Clewett went on to concede only six runs as Cleethorpes ran out winners by seven runs. He finished with superb figures of 4/14 in his four overs as Cleethorpes got out of jail. Osmond’s 1/23 in four overs had also been crucial.
The losers of that than went onto play Hull in the second fixture. Hull ran out comfortable winners chasing down Frodingham’s moderate score of 110-7. Despite losing late wickets Hull reached their target in the 19th over for the loss of 5 wickets.
This meant the final game of the day would see the winner progress to finals day. Again Cleethorpes batted first but lost early wickets with Carlton and Tomlinson both departing for 8 while Alex Osmond fell to a smart boundary catch for 16. When Rory Osmond ran himself out attempting a third, Cleethorpes were in deep trouble at 47-4 after 6.5 overs. However Bill Kirby and Yaniv Judah steadied the ship with a century stand as a combination of great running and placement took the score past 150. Kirby completed his half century in 45 balls before departing in the final over having made 63 including six fours. Jadah, out off the final delivery, has provided good support with 42 (35 balls) as Cleethorpes closed on 155-6. Hull reply got off to a flying start as poor bowling from Nathan Judah and Jack Harrison was punished and the pair raced to 61 inside six overs. When Matthew Wilkinson (28) was first to depart, Hull had reached 75 and looked in complete command. Hull opener Rhodes looked in great form as he went on to hit nine boundaries and three sixes in a brutal half century taking just 25 balls to bring up his fifty. Daniel Wilkinson (22) came in and added 53 with Rhodes for the second wicket with Cleethorpes bowling looking ineffective. When Alex Osmond had Wilkinson caught in the deep they required just 28 in five and a half overs. Clewett again was able to stem the run rate and two cheap overs from Bill Kirby meant Hull still needed nine runs off Stuart Harvey’s final over to clinch the match. Cleethorpes would live to regret a missed stumping off the first ball as Harvey’s next delivery was deposited over long on by Rhodes. Another two off the fourth ball brought the game tied but they failed to score off the fifth ball. This meant one to win off the final delivery and it seemed Cleethorpes chances had gone when Rhodes ran a bye after Windeatt fumbled behind. However the square leg umpire adjudged the batsman stumped after the ball rebounded of the keeper's stumps to dislodge a bail. Rhodes finished on 86 in just 55 balls. Only after all three umpires had consulted were Hull awarded the game on fewer wickets lost to deservedly go through.

PRIORYMEN BEAT STEELMEN

Outcasts v App-Frod 2nds

By Glen SandsAfter losing their first game of the season at Hykeham on Easter Saturday, Outcasts have now gone on a five-match unbeaten streak which has seen them progress in the George Marshall Cup and climb into third place in the Lincs League Division One league table.
As in the last four matches the Isle side batted first and had reached 47 when they lost their first wicket when Richard Wroot was caught by Mick Bramley off the bowling of son Ben for 10. Darren Clark joined the impressive youngster Coulman to move the total to 77 at which point the opener had made an excellent 55 before he was bowled by John Taylor then the third wicket went down on 101 as Darren Clark was bowled by Liam Grimes just as he appeared set to make a pressing contribution. David Hobson was run out for nine whilst Graham Clark made just three before he was caught by Simon Leek off Simon Wild but the prized wicket was that of the destructive Andy Lawson who was bowled by Bramley junior for a quickfire 28. Skipper Russell Fletcher batted superbly for his 28 not out , aided by Liam McAnaney who remained not out on 10 as the Priorymen ended their overs allocation on 184 for 7 , Ben Bramley picking up 3 for 47 for the Steelmen.
Frod's reply saw them lose early wickets which meant their hopes of overhauling the Outcasts total were hindered immensely. Adam Barker was run out then Paul Taylor was caught by wicket keeper Richard Wroot off Liam McAnaney for five making it 13 for 2. Macca then bowled Mick Bramley without him having troubled the scorers and wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals as the Isle side kept ahead of the game. Young under 17 prospect Alex Fletcher picked up 3 for 21 from his permitted seven overs whilst the impressive McAnaney continued to keep thigs tidy at the other end , finishing with 4 for 52 from 22 overs. Frod's last wicket pair stood firm to prevent Outcasts picking up a full twenty points but the eighteen they did take means they currently stand third in the Division One table on 78 points , a tally they have normally not reached by the end of June!
It was not such good news for the Outcasts 2nds who travelled to early Division Three pace-setters Washingborough and suffered a hefty defeat. Brett Smith top scored with 29 in an all out total of 103 which was easily overhauled for the loss mof just one wicket , James Sewell guiding the Lincoln based side to a full twenty points.
Outcasts' first team will travel to play Holton Le Clay on Saturday in Lincs Division One whilst the 2nd eleven entertain Old Lincolnians.

'EMMI' AWARD FOR MAN OF MATCH

Misterton skipper Darren Emmingham produced a real man of the match performance on Sunday as his team won for the first time in the North Lindsey League this season at Luddington, who only had themselves to blame for their defeat when dropping a couple of catches.
It was Luddington who batted first with the Clark brothers opening for the Isle side and it was Darren who was out first , caught and bowled by Darren Emmingham for seven with the total on 12. Graham Clark was next to go , bowled by Emmingham for 17 then home skipper Gareth Parkin was caught by that man Emmingham off Mark Boscolo for five leaving Ludd on 31 for 3. Andy Lawson and Danny Taylor took the score to 84 before both were quickly dismissed , Taylor for just a single and Lawson for an impressive 46 then Steve Proctor and Arron Curry took the total to 105 only for Proctor to edge a catch to Tim Sharpe off Tom Denmanhaving made eight. Debutant Martin Fletcher scored five then was caught by Denman off Matt Boscolo and with the score on 120 Curry was bowled by Beecroft for 12. A further half a dozen runs had been added when Matt Mellers was ninth man out , bowled by Matt Boscolo for four but another man on debut , Andy Clark stuck around with veteran Barry O'Brien to end the innings at 145 for 9 , Clark making four not out whilst O'Brien hit an excellent 15 not out to bolster his case for a top order slot in future weeks !
Having taken 3 for 41 in the Luddington innings Misterton skipper Emmingham proved his all round ability by making an exceptional 90 not out to guide his team to victory. Tim Sharpe scored a quickfire 20 before being caught by Andy Lawson off Graham Clark but fellow opener Beecroft and his captain then added 80 for the second wicket only for Arron Curry to break the partnership when having Beecroft caught by wicket keeper Steve Proctor for 24. Curry then bowled Pete Snow without a run being added and picked up a third wicket when Proctor caught Mark Boscolo for four with the overall total at 116. Grham Clark bowled Bramham for two but all this time the impressive Emmingham was adding to the Misterton total at the other end. Both Clark and Curry picked up a further wicket each but fittingly it was Emmungham who hit the winning runs to earn Misterton their first three points haul of the season and inflicting a second league defeat on Luddington.
There will be an Isle of Axholme derby at Luddington on Sunday when they entertain Isleonians, whilst Misterton play hosts to Normanby Park, whom they defeated by ten wickets just two weeks ago in the Cup.
