Lincolnshire CCC begin their 2014 season in the one day
knockout competition on Sunday, 27th April when they host Cumberland
at Woodhall Spa (11am start). They then visit Shropshire at Shrewsbury, where
they lost narrowly last year, before hosting Northumberland at Bracebridge
Heath and then visiting Cheshire at Bramhall for their final group fixture.
Progress to the quarter final stages is dependant upon finishing in the top two
of the group.
The side will be captained this season by former
Nottinghamshire, Northants and Worcestershire pace bowler, David Lucas who
returns to Lincolnshire after a lengthy spell in the first class game. One
welcome return to the squad is Cleethorpes all rounder, Alex Osmond, whose
bowling will add much needed variety to the attack. As in 2013 the squad will
have a very youthful look about it and competition for places is wide open. In
2013 Lincolnshire fielded the youngest Minor Counties teams in England and this
is a policy that will be continued. The retirement of their ever present wicket
keeper, Oliver Burford, has left a vacancy in that role and there are a number
of young players competing for that position. Tom Brooks, of Appleby
Frodingham, has been selected as keeper for the fixture against Cumberland.
The
full squad is:- David Lucas (Captain), Brett Houston, Anish Patel, Karanjit
Bansal, Conrad Louth, Jon Cheer, Matthew Sargeant, Alex Osmond, Tom Brooks (Wkt
Kpr.),Matthew Carter, Adam Shepherd, Ross Carnelley and Lewis Bramley.
In the Minor County Championship, Sleaford, Cleethorpes and
Grantham again stage the home three day fixtures with Staffordshire, Hertfordshire
and Buckinghamshire the respective visitors.
