What
promised to be a hard fought and keenly contested match between Outcasts and
league leaders Broughton turned out to be a cakewalk for Matty Hammond's team as
they cruised to a seven wicket win against a lacklustre Outcasts
side.
Home skipper Richard Wroot chose to bat first but were quickly in
trouble when losing their opening three batsmen with only 24 on the board.
Darren Clark was first to go , bowled yet again behind his legs , this time by
namesake Shaun Clark for five then Andy Torr hoisted a catch to Tom Reed to earn
Clark his second wicket. Skipper Wroot was superbly stumped by the quick silver
reactions of Nick Dobbs , again off that man Clark then Peter Tait suffered a
rare failure when he was well caught by Paul Reed off brother Tom with the total
on 35. John Stokoe was digging in and along with Scott Buttrick he helped move
the score onto 51 before he was fifth out , caught by Shaun Clark off Reed for a
defient 26 then Andy Lawson , in at number seven took the game to Broughton with
a well constructed 30 including five fours. The total stood at 95 when he was
caught in the deep by Danny Minshall off Shaun Clixby and with just one further
run added Buttrick was caught behind for 15 giving Clixby his second wicket in
his third over. Josh Bramhill became his third victim when he was caught by
Matty Hammond for just a single and spin bowler Paul Reed quickly wrapped up the
innings when he had Graham Clark caught by Hammond again before Dobbs produced
another stumping to send Tom Sharpe back to the pavilion , leaving Outcasts all
out for a very disappointing 102 , Clark and Clixby finishing with three wickets
each whilest the Reed brothers shared the other four.
To have any hope of
winning the game the Priorymen needed early wickets and that simply did'nt
happen as Neil Simpson and Matty Hammond batted sensibly from the off. They had
put on 27 for the first wicket when Simpson was out to a tremendous tumbling
catch by Darren Clark off brother Graham's bowling but the second wicket did'nt
come until Broughton were within twenty three runs of victory. It was something
of a strange dismissal too as Nick Dobbs drove the ball straight to John Stokoe
then proceeded to wander out of his crease and consequently be run out as Stokoe
threw the ball to Tait who whipped off the bails leaving Dobbs to walk off red
faced with 25 to his name. They had progressed to 99 when part time bowler Andy
Torr was brought on to bowl and he surprised David Jones by bowling him with his
first delivery but it was too little too late and Matty Hammond went on to
stroke the winning run to finish the game on 35 not out , earning his team a
very comfortable twenty points with Outcasts snatching just one in a
particularly disappointing display.

READERS LINCS ECB LEAGUE PREMIER REACHES HALFWAY POINT

As the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League
season reached the halfway stage, Hartsholme caused the upset of the weekend
with a 49 run win over Bracebridge Heath that pushed the former champions down
from second to third place in the table.
Playing at Ashby Avenue
However,
this still leaves Hartsholme 34 points behind 11th place Haxey whose
victory over Lindum in the closest match of the day keeps them within 14 points
of their opponents.
Haxey
managed 163 for eight at St Giles Avenue
Lindum
looked well on the way to a win after Will Wright made 66 and took the total to
104 for three. But the combined attack
of Attenborough and Josh Savage then reduced Lindum to 140 for nine and despite
the efforts of Oliver Guilliatt and Stuart Turner, the home side fell seven
runs short of their target.
Bracebridge’s
defeat enabled Woodhall Spa to open up a 15 point lead at the top of the table
after Jonny Cheer hit one of the day’s two centuries. Cheer made 107 and with Sam Evison (71),
helped put Woodhall in a commanding position.
The overs
ran out with the home side on 269 for three, a total that proved too much for
Market Deeping who were all out for 148, David Gillett hitting 62.
Sleaford
moved into second with a nine wicket win over Grimsby
Peter
Morgan hit the highest individual total in the highest scoring match of the
day. Morgan made 130 off 134 balls with
seven fours and five sixes and, with Robert Bentley, put on 141 for the first
wicket.
When
Bentley went for 43, caught and bowled by new Spalding signing Nabeel Bhayla,
Conrad Louth continued the onslaught, making 87 from 61 balls with 12 fours and
a six.
The innings
ended on 298 for six, three of the wickets falling to Warren Nel and it was Nel
who came to the crease with the Spalding score on 39 for two. With the help of Josh Newton and Tim Norris,
Nel saw the total to 134 for three but when Norris was out for 37, the number
three could only watch as the wickets began to tumble at the other end.
When Nel
was out for 65, Spalding were 158 for seven but Ansar Hussain and Jack Barratt
answered the call, adding 65 for the eighth wicket. Hussain was out for 36 but Barratt ended
unbeaten 25 as the visitors reached 225 for eight to claim maximum batting
points and an extra three points for the draw.
This leave Bourne
and Spalding locked together in eighth place on 110 points, just four behind
Louth who lost out to Skegness thanks to a man of the match performance from
Saeed Bariwala.

LINCS LEAGUE T20 RE-ARRANGED AT LOUTH
The
Lincolnshire County Cricket League’s 50th anniversary Twenty20 competition has
now been re-arranged.
It
will be played on Sunday, July 28 at Louth Cricket Club’s London Road
The
initial attempt to stage this prestigious event on June 23 – at Chichester Road
League fixture secretary Glen Sands said: “Would all clubs which had players due to play on June 23 enquire about their availability to take part in the competition at Louth and let myself or chairman Bob Welton know as soon as possible so that replacements can be invited, if required.

£10k BOOST FOR ALKBOROUGH CRICKET CLUB
Alkborough Cricket Club on West Halton Lane will be awarded £10,000 towards the
cost of ground maintenance, North Lincolnshire Council has announced.
The club would like to buy a cricket pitch roller to help maintain the cricket square to a suitable standard.
There are three strands to the council’s £500,000 Community Grant Fund: Grants to Individuals, Community Revenue Grants and Community Capital Grants.
Community Capital Grants support community sport, arts and heritage projects with grants of up to £15,000 normally available.
Groups can apply for one grant of up to £30,000 in any five-year period if the total cost of the project is more than £60,000.

BROUGHTON EVENING LEAGUE ROUND-UP BY GLEN SANDS
Appleby
Frodingham continued their march to the Broughton Evening League title with a
commanding 50 runs victory over Luddington on June 26th where Jack Dixon hit 45
and Alex Grimes 39 in their score of 145 for 4 before Scott Grimes then took
centre stage with bowling figures of 7 for 23 from his allotted overs as
Luddington replied with 95 for 9 , Oliver Coulman top scoring for the Isle side
with 21. Frod remain six points ahead of second placed Scunthorpe Scorpions who
had an even bigger win against Barton Town , racking up 146 for 3 with 52 from
Ian Snowden before he retired and 42 from Jake Smith then Josh Pashley picked up
4 for 2 for the Scorpions as they bowled Barton out for 62 and finally last
years Champions Broughton were made to fight for their victory at Normanby Park
where Nick Dobbs hit 57 not out and Neil Simpson 24 not out in Broughton's 118
for 9 , Liam Hebblewhite taking 4 for 24 for Normanby then Alex Czbaniuk replied
with 50 and Zack Meadows 23 not out when Normanby responded with 98 for
4.July 3rd will see leaders Appleby Frodingham head over to Barton
looking for their 100% record to be stretched to seven while second placed
Scunthorpe Scorpions will expect a tough game when they travel to third placed
Broughton who really need to win if they are to have any hopes of retaining
their crown. Finally Normanby Park play host to Luddington looking to register
their first win of the season and will take heart from their most recent
performance when taking on their Isle of Axholme opponents.

It was something of a family affair at Luddington as league leaders Appleby Frodingham eased to a 50 runs victory thanks in the main to brothers Alex and Scott Grimes who took the honours with bat and ball for the Steelmen.Frod won the toss and chose to bat first with Alex Grimes and Matthew Fowler both batting well from the off , pressurising the fielders with some excellent running between the wickets and punishing any loose deliveries. Fowler had reached eleven when he was caught by Jamie Arrowsmith off Matthew Teal which brought Simon Taylor to the crease. He hit a quickfire 22 including one towering six into the adjacent school yard before he was bowled by Jonathan Wroot then the impressive Grimes was bowled by Scott Buttrick having made 39 as Ludd hit back to make it 78 for 3. Jack Dixon and another youngster Rhys Brown then added 63 in a terrific partnership with Dixon in particular improvising some clever ways of making runs with reverse sweeps and scoops. He had made an entertaining 45 when he was trapped LBW by Teal and it was left to Brown ( 22 not out ) and Jack Forrester ( 1 not out ) to finish things off as Frod closed on 145 for 4. Matthew Teal took 2 for 32 while special mention should go to debutant Ben Wicks who bowled well on his first outing for Ludd.
With his brother Alex having batted so well it was to be Scott Grimes turn to shine when Frod took to the field , picking up an incredible 7 for 23 from his four overs as the Ludd batsmen unerringly found the fielders when hitting the ball in the air. Joe Woolhouse and Oliver Coulman put on 35 for the first wicket before Coulman became Grimes' first wicket when being caught by Simon Taylor for 21 then Woolhouse was run out for 13 and from then on the wickets fell at regular intervals. Andy Lawson was bowled by Grimes then Jamie Arrowsmith was trapped LBW and his fifth wicket came Ben Wicks was comfortably caught by Matthew Fowler at mid wicket. Danny Taylor deposited his first deliver straight into Simon Taylor's hands and Scott Buttrick was stumped by Alex Grimes to earn brother Scott tremendous figures of 7 for 23. George Forrester joined in when bowling Jonathan Wroot with the total on 70 but Mick Wills and Matt " Flairs " Grimbleby stood firm at the end , adding 25 for the final wicket , Wills making 14 not out and Grimbleby eight before the innings drew to a close with Ludd 50 runs shy of the Frod target.
So dad Vinny Grimes was able to proudly applaud his sons from the field along with everyone else in attendance and Frod took another step toward their seemingly inevitable race to the title. LINCOLNSHIRE BEATEN BY HERTFORDSHIRE

For their second Minor Counties Eastern Division
match Lincolnshire visited Hertfordshire. With opening bowler, Adam Shepherd,
out injured and Mat Lineker playing for the Unicorns, Lincs recalled Lewis
Bramley to the side with Dan Birch returning to open the innings. For the second
game running they participated in a match dominated by the batsmen. On winning
the toss on an excellent pitch at Hertford they had no hesitation in deciding to
bat first. The morning session was dominated by Dan Birch and by lunch he had
reached a century with Lincs totalling 182 for2. Well supported firstly by Harry
Warwick and then Conrad Louth (52) Birch continued his pre lunch assault on the
Hertfordshire bowlers and eventually reached 200 off 225 balls including
seventeen fours and seven sixes. In so doing he joined an elite list of
Lincolnshire batsmen to score 200 in a Minor Counties match. Following his
dismissal the scoring rate inevitably slowed and at the end of their allotted 90
overs Lincs were 373 for 7 with debutant Will Edwards making 37.
When Hertfordshire batted the run feast continued
as their openers, Daniel Blacktopp and Harry Ramsden created a new opening
partnership record for their County putting on 292 for their first wicket.
Blacktopp eventually fell for 155 and Ramsden for 126 and further half centuries
from Nesan Jeyaratnam and Jamie Southgate pushed the home side's final total to
424 for 6, a lead of 51. Harry Clewett was Lincolnshire's most successful bowler
taking 4 for 130.
Lincolnshire's second innings was to be the turning
point in the game as they needed to set their opponents at least 300 in the last
innings. Again Dan Birch and Conrad Louth were the main scorers in the top order
making 73 and 45 respectively. However at 150 for 7 Lincolnshire's hopes looked
slim and it was only the lower order of Lewis Bramley with 50 and Matt Carter
with 54 not out that gave the visitors some hope as they were finally dismissed
for 289, setting Herts 239 to win.
If Lincolnshire were to pull off a victory early
wickets were crucial but again the Herts openers gave their side a solid start
putting on 99 for the first wicket, Blacktopp with 48 and Ramsden 51. Further
solid knocks from Scott (50) Frazer (32 not out) and Southgate (30) saw Herts to
victory shortly before lunch on the third day.
This was a hard match for Lincolnshire's youthful
side but there were many positives to take from the game, despite defeat.
Lincolnshire took 6 points from the match and Hertfordshire 23 leaving Lincs in
a mid table position prior to their next fixture at home to Cumberland at
Cleethorpes commencing on Sunday, 7thJuly.

SOLITARY GAME IN AMAZING SMILE LEAGUE ON SUNDAY
There
was just one game scheduled in the Amazing Smile North Lindsey League with the
date left free to allow players to participate in the Lincolnshire League 50th
anniversary celebrations at Cleethorpes (eventually postponed) and it brought a first win of the league
campaign for Blyth CC who bowled Upton cum Kexby out for 57 before easing to 60
for 3 by way of reply.A much changed Upton cum Kexby line up had John
Mattioli to thank for reaching 57 as he finished on 17 not out , Penrose taking
4 for 17 and Singh 3 for 13 for Blyth and Glyn Coxhill then took centre stage
when making 31 not out as his team celebrated their first victory of their Third
Division campaign.
Clubs will play in the Divisional Cups on June 30th , apart from one league game in Division Three when Upton cum Kexby welcome league leaders Cleethorpes as both teams gained byes in the Cup draw.

Spa set Billingborough a target of 179 but rain washed out further play with
the visitors on 48 without loss.
In a day
when batsmen struggled for runs, only two teams passed the 200 mark. One of these was Sleaford 2nd for
whom Paul Roberts hit an unbeaten century in his side’s 217 for five. James
Rickett then took eight for 25 off 10 overs as Skegness were bowled out for
132.
In the
battle at the bottom of the table, Belton Park
Long
Sutton’s reign at the top of Division One continues following a low scoring
game against Spalding 2nd.
Tom Dale took seven for 23 as the leaders were bowled out for a meagre 45,
six batsmen failing to score.
But even
that small total proved too much for Spalding as Paul Edgeller took five for
nine and the home side collapsed to 38 all out, again with six ducks.
Baston
stayed in touch with the top, beating Moulton Harrox Sunday by 10 wickets to
stay 20 points behind Long Sutton. But
Baston have Stamford 2nd breathing down their necks, just one point
behind while Thomas Cook trail Stamford by four after both won at the weekend,
against Heckington and Blankney respectively.
Only 12
points separate second and sixth in this division but things are more clear-cut
in Division Two where Long Sutton 2nd have built up a 29 point lead
at the top.
Cavaliers
have moved into second after hitting the day’s highest score of 225 for seven
then bowling Pinchbeck out for 91, Jamie Hayes taking six for 18.
Claypole
slipped to third, having gone down by eight wickets to Long Sutton and Spalding
3rd are fourth.
Burgh and
District are enjoying a good season, lying fifth after beating Grantham.
Only three
games were lost to the weather, a tribute to the work of groundsmen and the
determination of captains and umpires to play wherever possible.

the toss and, having invited their opponents to bat, skipper Liam Wood led from
the front, taking the wicket of his Grimsby
Wood also
bowled Steve Crossley and had Ross Carnelly caught by Nathan Davis. Caistor’s fielding was marked by good
catching with Davis
Guest
player Rob Cook, formerly with Nettleham before moving away from the area, then
joined forces with Neal Snell to steady the innings and the score had more than
doubled before Andy Pearson took a catch off Harry Capstick to dismiss Cook for
20.
Snell was
next to go, Harry Boulton taking an excellent high catch off Capstick but the
lower order dug in and the crowd were treated to some big hitting by Brendan
Volley and Lee Charlton who made 24 and 18 respectively to help the score to
120 for nine at the close, Wood finishing with four for 23 off his four overs
and Capstick with four for 39 while Kieran Brooker bowled an economical four
overs for only 16 runs.
Caistor
went out to chase what looked like an achievable target but found themselves in
the same position as Grimsby
Snell and
Charlton made it 17 for four but Pearson and Peter Jacob dug in, taking Caistor
to 35 before Pearson fell to Cook who went on to take three more wickets. This made it 56 for eight and despite the
efforts of Capstick and Tim Brown, who took the innings into the last over,
Caistor could only manage 70 before Hamilton took the final wicket.

Cook was named man of the match for his 20 runs, four wickets and one

APP-FROD HAVE CLEAR LEAD AT TOP OF BROUGHTON EVENING LEAGUE

Appleby -Frodingham have opened up a six points lead at the top of the Broughton Evening League table following their 30 runs victory over Champions Broughton , Frod being reduced to 81 for 7 only to then bowl Broughton out for 51, whilst Scunthorpe Scorpions climbed into second spot when they eased to a 36 runs win at Normanby Park. Ian Snowden scored 47 and Jake Smith 25 for the Scorpions with Liam Hebblewhite taking 3 for 38 but Normanby were restricted to 109 for 8 , Jacob Render top scoring with 36 with Matt Pashley taking 3 for 25 for the visitors. Finally Barton Town racked up 139 for 4 against Luddington who made the long journey to Marsh Lane , John Knapton hitting 47 , Ian Andrew 39 and Gareth Mellers 22 not out then the Barton bowlers kept things tight early in the Isle sides innings and that proved important as Ludd finished 32 runs short of their target despite an excellent 51 ( retired ) from Darren Clark.

SNAITH LEAGUE WASHOUT - BY GLEN SANDS

Snaith & District Evening League was completely washed out on June 20th with
all clubs receiving a point each apart from Outcasts in Division One who were
awarded a win against Burn who contacted them on June 18th to inform them they
were unable to fulfill the fixture due to players being unavailable because of
work , holidays or exams.The
top two teams in Division One go head to head on June 27th when league leaders
Goole Town play hosts to Fishlake in the game of the day whilst third placed
Outcasts will be looking to close the gap on one of them when they travel to
bottom club Hensall. Askern Welfare entertain Hirst Courtney and finally Burn
will hope to climb away from the foot of the table if they can see off Airmyn
who have settled well in Division One following their promotion last
year.

riding high in the top of the ECB Premier League. Jim Morgan’s side are looking
to make it a hat trick of Knock Outs, having waited 75 years to win the
competition then triumphing two years in a row.
The match
could see a first outing for Australian bowler Joel Hamilton who may prove a
handful for the Caistor batsmen. But
with opener Harry Boulton currently lying second in the Lincs League Premier
Division runs with more than 350 to his name and Paul Dimbleby taking over 20
wickets so far this season, Caistor will be up for the challenge.
The match
begins at 6.15pm and the winner will join Louth, Cleethorpes and
Lincolnshire Cavaliers in the semi-finals.
T20 AT CLEETHORPES POSTPONED
The scheduled Twenty20 tournament at Chichester Road, Cleethorpes, today (Sunday June 23) has been postponed because of wet conditions. The Lincolnshire County Cricket League is now looking to re-arrange the event to mark its 50th anniversary. Full details to follow.
LAST-BALL DECIDER IN LINCS ECB PREMIER ON SAT JUNE 22

A last ball
run out at Spalding kept Woodhall Spa at the top of the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League while Matt
Carter’s seven wicket haul of Lindum wickets helped Bracebridge Heath retain second
place, just two behind the leaders.
Warren Nel made 84 of Spalding’s 172 but Woodhall had to
fight all the way, losing seven wickets on their way to victory.
Carter was in fine form at Cross O’Cliff Court, taking seven
for 33 in 12 overs as Lindum were all out for 86. Paul Cook then hit an unbeaten 72 as his side
won by 10 wickets.
Market Deeping took over in third after an eight wicket win
over Hartsholme who are now in deep trouble at the bottom of the table.
This allowed Sleaford to move into fourth, Tim McIntosh hitting
70 runs in his side’s four wicket win over Skegness.
Louth moved up to sixth with a three wicket win over Haxey
but were unable to bowl their opponents out to claim maximum points and are
just one point ahead of Skegness.
Haxey and Bourne still occupy 10th and 11th
places but Bourne’s 20 points takes them to within five of ninth placed
Spalding.
